The Stevenson High School Athletics program consists of more than 35 sports teams, state-of-the-art facilities, and dedicated student athletes, coaches, staff members and supporters. Through their commitment and sacrifice, this year-round program has brought pride and distinction to our school community.
Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 is a five-time US Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and serves a large diverse community of professional and adolescent learners. Students are of diverse backgrounds and cultural heritages and bring as assets their diversity of thought, beliefs, goals, and needs to the learning environment. Stevenson is at the cradle of the Professional Learning Community movement and seeks student-centered, innovative, forward-thinking, reflective practitioners to help achieve the mission of Success for Every Student.
The Director of Athletics is a full-time, 12-month, administrative position, with supervisory duties.
The Director will effectively lead and supervise the supervisors, support staff, and coaches in the athletics division.
Evaluation and Supervision of Staff:
Supervises, evaluates, and recommends continued employment for all staff within the program
Evaluates teacher effectiveness in the classroom by means which include formal observation and written performance reports as prescribed in District guidelines
Informs staff of school policies which affect them
Assists in the orientation of staff
Assists in the development of in-service and staff development programs
Budget/Purchasing:
Develops budget for supplies, capital equipment, travel, and other budgetary accounts in the Program's curricular and co-curricular accounts under his/her supervision
Administers the budget within allocated amounts
Approves and processes all program requisitions
Administrative Duties:
Advises the Principal and Director of Human Resources on staffing needs
Interviews, evaluates, and recommends prospective staff
Approves time sheets for non-certified staff
Apprises the Supervisor of Building and Grounds of custodial and maintenance requirements
Advises the Principal and Director of Communications in matters of public relations concerning his/her Program
Maintains inventories of program equipment
Serves on school-related committees as assigned
Responds to parent and /or student inquiries regarding the Program
Leadership:
Operates from a sound knowledge base.
Is knowledgeable of the research on effective current educational theory and practice
Continually attempts to expand knowledge and skills that will improve his or her overall effectiveness as Director
Daily activities and decisions are guided by a clear vision of the goals of the school and department.
Identifies discrepancies between the vision and actual conditions and formulates short and long-term objectives to address these discrepancies
Provides a sense of direction to staff, community, and students
Communicates the school and Division vision.
Continually refers staff and community to improvement goals and long-term vision
Creates processes to monitor the factors which impact on the Division's and/or school's progress toward its vision
Models the behavior and attitudes he or she is attempting to promote in others
Celebrates achievements and behavior which advance the division and /or school towards it vision
Confronts behavior and attitudes which are contrary to the department's and/or school's vision
Coordinates effort with staff and other administrators to advance the school towards its vision
Promotes a positive climate within the Division and school.
Responds to questions, issues, and problems promptly
Consults with staff as part of the decision-making process
Empowers staff within well-defined parameters
Functions effectively under pressure
Demonstrates consideration for others

Ability to work effectively with people
Ability to accurately assess the effectiveness of teachers and instructional programs.
Ability to organize personnel, materials, and facilities into an effective learning environment.
Ability to formulate and achieve long-range goals
Ability to keep records utilizing writing or keyboarding
Ability to maintain regular attendance
Ability to utilize data to inform programming
Qualifications:
Required:
Master's Degree
Valid ISBE Professional Educator's License (PEL) with a high school-level endorsement and General Administrative Endorsement or Principal Endorsement
Successfully completed the Illinois Evaluator Pre-Qualification Training
Five years of teaching experience preferred
