JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The certified occupational therapist provides occupational therapy services in early care or educational setting to eligible children under the supervision of the Program Officer. Functions as “related service personnel” under state and federal law and regulations to develop and provide IEP services to eligible children in the City of Pittsburgh.

10 Months

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Responsible for direct treatment in a preschool-based environment after children have been evaluated and found to be eligible.
  2. Development of activities within a preschool environment which addresses occupational therapy goals that are written into the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), the plan for children who are eligible for special education within Early Intervention.
  3. Assesses and is knowledgeable in seating and adaptation needs in a preschool environment.
  4. Collaborates with families and educational staff on therapy goals.
  5. Maintains data collection, assessment and evaluation for progress monitoring and planning.
  6. Travels to the early care and educational setting to provide direct and/or consultative services according to the child's IEP goals.
  7. Adapts environments, tools, materials and activities according to the child's needs.
  8. Maintains equipment and supply inventory for children on their caseload.
  9. Maintains records and documentation as required, including usage in state data system, PELICAN, and program data system.
  10. Must have skills in the following areas: excellent oral and written communication; organization; team-building; experience working with families and other colleagues; and, delivering integrated therapy to address IEP goals in an inclusive setting.
  11. Additional duties required by the occupational therapist and EI administration.


EDUCATION REQUIRED (MINIMUM)

Completion of an Occupational Therapy Bachelor's Degree program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED

Licensed Occupational Therapy Certification in required subject area.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Varies based on specific need of the school.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

1.. Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Pennsylvania.
2.. Must have experience working with young children, particularly those with special education needs.
3.. Must have a valid PA driver's license and an automobile to travel between sites in the city during the work day.
