POSITION SUMMARY:

These are Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Programs (MAAPP) consisting of a full-time, 10-month teaching position.

The Resident Teacher will be responsible for completing program requirements and providing effective instruction to students in assigned district schools.

Brief Description

TEACHING RESIDENCY:




Two-year training program. Training includes the pedagogical understanding for student needs. The five phase program includes: Recruitment, Pre-Employment Training, Supervised Internship, Residency and Certification Requirements. Participants successfully completing all requirements will obtain a Standard Professional Certificate I (SPC-1) in the specified content area at the end of the two-year program.

Base Salary: $56,731

    Detailed Description

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Meets the requirements of the program;

  • Meets regularly with subject coordinator;

  • Assists with the planning, developing, and implementing of curriculum, assessments, and professional development;

  • Encourages schools to utilize data to make sound decisions for students and to differentiate instruction;

  • Provides modeling and strategies for optimum teaching delivery and student results;

  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods;

  • Confers with school counselors and teaching staff to obtain additional testing information and to gain insight on student behavioral disorders affecting learning process;

  • Attends professional meetings and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences, as necessary;

  • Writes reports, maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices;

  • Provides leadership in the utilization of student records and test results; and

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelor's degree in a field other than education from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Have a minimum 2.75 GPA on college or university transcript(s).

  • Applicants must pass the basic skills assessment (Praxis Core, Praxis I, SAT, ACT, GRE or have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher on the last degree earned) by the end of May 2024.


  • SAT- Prior to April 1995, Math and Verbal - Score requirement 1000

  • SAT- (April 1995 - December 31, 2018) (math and verbal OR math and critical reading OR evidence-based reading & writing and math)- Score requirement - 1100

  • SAT- (on/after January 1, 2019) (evidence-based reading & writing and math) Score requirement- 1180

  • GRE- (prior to September 1, 2011) (math and verbal) Score requirement - 1000

  • GRE- (taken as of September 1, 2011) (math and verbal) Score requirement - 297

  • ACT - Score requirement -24

  • Applicants must pass the PRAXIS II content assessment by the Second week of May 2025.
