Job Summary
Works with newly arriving Non-English Language Background to ensure proper documentation, registration, initial language assessment data, and placement of EL students. Completes registration and enrollment of NELB and EL (English Learner) students by meeting with multilingual parents. Communicates in home language parent/guardian notification of child's eligibility for EL Services and their right to accept or decline.

What you will do
  • Manages and verifies general registration and Non-English Language Background (NELB) student documents relating to registration.
  • Creates and manages login information for the initial language assessment of the student before language assessment.
  • Interview family for home language and education background specific to NELB students and families
  • Determine eligibility for SIFE program
  • Input NELB and EL assessment information in student management system
  • Create transportation tickets for students requiring special transportation
  • Communicates in home language parent/guardian notification of child's eligibility for EL Services and their right to accept or decline.
  • Create students' Non-English Language Background folder to be sent to school for cumulative records.
  • Assists with interpreting oral and translating written communication for District staff and parents/guardians; may attend meetings, parent/guardian-teacher conferences, etc. in this capacity.
  • Assists with clerical duties.
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Bilingual, read and write in English and second language (Spanish preferred)
Starting At: $21.78

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
