Description

Scope: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing workplace and public safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with appropriate guidelines. They will do this through cross-functional project management, by conducting training, investigating incidents, providing recommendations for improvement, and implementing agency-wide safety strategies to mitigate risk, aiming to create a culture of a safe and compliant workplace.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute workplace and public safety plans for the Agency
  • Prepare and enforce policies and procedures to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and for continuous improvement, organizational alignment, and compliance.
  • Coordinate training and presentations for workplace and public safety matters and accident prevention for a multi-location, multi-functional, hybrid work environment
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on workplace and public safety awareness, issues and statistics
  • Manage the agency's Banned Entry Operating Procedure and ensure agency awareness of these individuals.
  • Serve as primary contact for internal agency safety related incident notification, investigation, and case management.
  • Ensure safety manuals, equipment, protocols, and procedures comply with all applicable laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Clerical: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in safety management OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Effectively handling confidential information and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of common public and workplace safety regulations and requirements.
  • Strong conflict management and problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment paying attention to detail.
  • Confidently establish workflows, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet required deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills with the ability to adapt style to a variety of situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Competencies:
  • Highly experienced in using internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • The ability to quickly learn and utilize the necessary software for this position.
  • Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to take decisive action.
  • Ability to de-escalate highly emotional crisis situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
  • Valid identification and reliable transportation.
Travel Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, including possible evenings and weekends as determined by agency need.
