Roosevelt Union Free School District Seeks a Superintendent of School

Our Schools
The Roosevelt Union Free School District has a PreKindergarten program together with three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, all of which are accredited by and designated as schools in good standing by the NYSED. Our schools include Centennial Avenue Elementary School, Washington Rose Elementary School, Ulysses Byas Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School and Roosevelt High School. We offer world languages in grades K-12. We offer several career and technical education opportunities, including programs in the culinary arts, nursing and barbering. Most recently, the district became the first in New York to offer a construction pre-apprenticeship program through the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).

Our Staff
Approximately 92 percent of Roosevelt’s 330 teachers hold master’s degrees and credits, and three percent hold doctorate degrees

The community serviced by the Roosevelt Union Free School District is a diverse professional community located in the Town of Hempstead about 45 minutes east of New York City. It has a population of approximately 16,522 residents. The Roosevelt community is 50 percent Black, 43.8 percent Hispanic/Latino, 2.4 percent American Indian/Alaskan Native, 2 percent Asian and 1.8 percent white.


  • Has classroom experience in a K-12 setting with handson experience leading curriculum and instruction in schools as well as knowledge of emerging research in the areas of teaching and learning, instructional design and CTE programs.
  • Has experience with effective management and planning practices that will benefit the long-term financial health of the district. 
  • Is a decision maker and powerful communicator in speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, leadership knowledge, and the sensitivity required to create a professional environment with trust and respect among faculty, staff, administrators, and Board.
  • Promotes a positive image of the district and has the sensitivity required to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by a diverse student body and community.
  • Has a strong moral compass that is rooted in justice and equality
  • Is intensely committed to a “student centered” philosophy in all diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Promotes positive student behavior conducive to a healthy and safe learning environment.
  • Possesses the ability to enhance student performance, especially in identifying and closing or narrowing the gaps in student achievement and opportunity.

Salary and Benefits
The salary will be in the range of $250,000 to $260,000 plus an excellent comprehensive benefit package. The final salary for the successful candidate will be determined based upon proven experience, qualifications, and meeting Board criteria

Deadline and Selection
All materials submitted as part of the Superintendent application will remain confidential to the fullest extent allowed by law, which includes Board review in a closed session of the Board of Education. After all applications have been reviewed and preliminary interviews conducted by the consulting firm, the names of the top candidates will be presented to the Roosevelt Union Free School District Board of Education for its consideration.
