The Special Education Transition Teacher will provide comprehensive and specialized instruction to students with multiple learning disabilities ages 18-21 as they transition from high school to adult life.

As a Special Education Transition Teacher, you will be responsible to teach students who have a wide range of learning, mental and emotional disabilities. 

Instruction will be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, building, and job site. 

The  Special Education Transition Teacher employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.

The Special Education Transition Teacher assists students while they investigate workplace readiness skills, the relationship between personal behavior and employability, steps needed to achieve career goals, workplace safety, post-secondary educational options and independent living skills.

 

Requirements:

Instructional Certificate: Candidates must hold a CE, CEAS or Standard NJ instructional certificate as well as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped License 

Experienced with special needs students and their parents

Relevant experience with the vocational needs of disabled students

Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills that work with all audiences

Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavioral, family, and classroom situations

Demonstrate ability to observe, evaluate, report, and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health

Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player

Working knowledge of proactive communication with colleagues about scholar needs to ensure integrated support
