Monadnock Regional School District is in the shadow of Mount Monadnock, the second most climbed mountain in the world. There is great skiing within an hour’s drive, and myriad lakes and rivers to swim in, fish in and picnic by. We are 30 minutes from Brattleboro, VT and two hours from Boston, MA. We have a dedicated staff who go above and beyond every day for the benefit of our students. Our Beyond the Bell program is in five schools and has several hundred students enrolled in after school and summer programming. We have vibrant sports, music, drama and co-curricular programs, many of which are competitive at state and national level. Our current superintendent was NH Superintendent of the Year, and we have several principals who have also received that honor. The Role
Full Time, Year-Round, Salaried, Exempt
The Superintendent of Schools is accountable for the overall execution and planning of all core knowledge areas identified within the District. The person in this position uses executive-level management, organizational, planning, communication, technical and conflict management skills to ensure that all core knowledge areas are carried out effectively to meet the goals and objectives set forth annually by the School Board.
The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that programming, staffing, finances, community relations, and facilities of the district are adequate to support the growth and development of the students. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the schools are run according to federal, state, and local laws as well as the policies and desires of the MRSD School Board.
This position supervises all of the following:
Assistant Superintendent, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Business Administrator, Director of Student Services, Director of Facilities, Director of Technology, Building Principal (Middle School/ High School), Building Principals (Elementary School)
The Superintendent will perform all duties common and customary for the position, including but not limited to:
Act as Chief Officer in charge of programs, interpreting the needs of the school system and planning programs to meet those needs.
- Continually improve instruction and educational programs through continuing education and analysis.
- Oversee efforts to improve student performance continually.
- Embrace the role of the Ultimate Instructional Leader
Act as Chief Officer in charge of staff, exercising administrative judgment and authority to meet the goals of the district and the wishes of the MRSD School Board.
- Provide complete oversight of all staff and student programs.
- Evaluate staff and implement corrective action where needed.
- Ensure that each school is adequately staffed with highly qualified individuals to provide quality programming and instruction to meet the schools' goals and objectives.
- Ensure that all employees are properly certified and licensed in the State of New Hampshire to perform the duties for which they are hired.
- Coordinate and implement plans for staff development to ensure that all staff remain current on educational topics related to their positions.
- Take appropriate and timely action to resolve issues of incompetence, immorality, or insubordination, or the failure of employees to conform to the laws of the State of New Hampshire, the rules, regulations, or directives of the New Hampshire Board of Education, or the rules, regulations or directives of the MRSD School Board.
- Nominate all staff.
- Visit each school site on a regular basis to stay apprised of activities within those facilities.
Act as Chief Officer in charge of finance, exercising administrative judgment and authority to meet the goals of the district and the wishes of the School Board.
- Prepare and coordinate the overall financial planning of the Monadnock Regional School District.
- Prepare and present the School District Budget presentation to the MRSD School Board for approval.
- Attend all Budget Committee hearings on the School Budget to support proposed budget items.
- Attend town Deliberative Sessions prepared to support proposed school warrants.
- Ensure that all required state and federal forms are filed in a timely manner.
Act as primary liaison between the schools and the community, exercising administrative judgment and authority to meet the goals of the district and the wishes of the MRSD School Board.
- Lead the development and improvement of school and community relations.
- Act as the primary school liaison between the schools and other town committees and agencies, including Emergency Services, the Board of Selectmen, and the Budget Committee.
- Maintain open communication with various media, including local and state-wide papers, televised media outlets, and radio.
Act as Chief Officer in charge of facilities, exercising administrative judgment and authority to meet the goals of the district and the wishes of the School Board.
- Coordinate the development of long-range and short-term planning for facilities and equipment and implement such plans to ensure the adequacy of educational facilities and equipment.

Act as the Board’s chief administration official.
- Advise the School Board on all matters and recommend appropriate policies for consideration.
- Attend all regular and special meetings of the MRSD School Board.
- Keep the Board apprised of legislative actions affecting the administration of the schools.
- Implement and execute all policies adopted by the School Board.
- Coordinate and recommend all matters requiring Board action, placing before the Board supportive, balanced, and helpful facts, information, and reports as needed to ensure the making of informed decisions.
- Keep the Board informed of all plans, programs, and issues that affect the overall operation of the schools and/or have a direct effect on the duties of the Board as defined in State and local statutes and Board policy.
- Work with the MRSD School Board Chair to develop Board Agendas and action items.
- Perform all other duties that are necessary to ensure the proper functioning of educational programs and services in the district, which are related to the position of Superintendent of Schools and chief administrative officer of the MRSD School Board.
Act as a professional in all matters relating to official duties, including but not limited to:
- Keeping abreast of current issues and trends in education
- Exercising sound judgment in matters related to the position
- Exercising restraint and dignity in all decisions
- Protecting the rights and dignity of all students, district employees, and citizens at all times
- Upholding the laws governing the position as well as the directives, policies, and wishes of the MRSD School Board.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current certification or certifiable as a Superintendent of Schools by the State of New Hampshire.
- Five years of public school experience, including classroom teaching, and five or more years in educational administration or supervision at the building and district levels.
