Company

Mission Statement:

New Dawn Charter Schools will provide over-aged and under-credited students 15 - 21 years of age, including those who are English Language Learners and those with special needs, the opportunity to return to school and obtain a high school diploma through a rigorous NYSED standards-based education program.

Within the framework of the education program, three programs will be offered:

  1.  Interventions for those with fewer than 11 credits, and for those with 11 or more credits
  2. Internships in the community
  3. College enrollment

Who We Are:

All students must be given a chance to complete high school, and this includes students who may be struggling with traditional schools. New Dawn Charter Schools are New York City Transfer Schools, reaching out to students who have either dropped out or are in school truants who will most likely not graduate with their four-year 9th grade peers.

New Dawn enrolls students who are over-aged and under-credited in grades 9 through 12 and includes an intensive program for those students who are the most at-risk and difficult to engage in their education: the student who is over 15 years old and has fewer than 11 credits.

Students who fulfill all academic and internship requirements will graduate with a New York State Education diploma. As a transfer school, New Dawn will be no student’s first high school, with the exception of the over-aged 8th graders who opt for our intensive program. We anticipate a very large proportion of students with disabilities and a smaller proportion of English Language Learners. At least 82% of the students will are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Throughout the course work that is completed at New Dawn Charter School students will have access to internship and vocational training, one-on-one and group college and career counseling, a mentor-based team of educational professionals and leaders who have implemented a rigorous and holistic instructional approach for all students.
