Position: Kindergarten Instructional Aide (7 hours per day/10 months)

The Opportunity:
The instructional aide will work closely with the classroom teachers to provide a nurturing environment that respects and honors the individual needs of all children, while also challenging them to meet high standards. In conjunction with the classroom teacher and/or the administration, the instructional aide will be expected to plan for and teach small and large groups; assist in developing units of study with the assistance of the teacher, keep track of student progress through assessment and record-keeping systems; and along with the classroom teacher occasionally participate in caregiver conferences. Other duties include conducting arrival, lunch and recess activities; accompanying children on field trips; duplicating materials; operating audio-visual equipment; assisting in specials; managing the whole class when the teacher attends meetings; and performing other tasks requested by the teacher and administration. Toileting of students is a duty that an individual may be expected and required to perform as a paraprofessional employed by the Cambridge Public Schools.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Instructional Aide, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree, or 48 college credits
  • Previous experiences working with students in a diverse, urban setting preferred
  • Knowledge of the social, emotional, and behavioral development of children preferred
  • Ability to work with children in both small and large groups in activity-based classroom settings
  • Technologically savvy
  • Ability to speak a language other than English is highly desirable
