    School Guidance Counselor
    This posting is only to those not currently teaching for CPS who want to be considered for a school counseling position for 2023-24 with Cincinnati Public Schools.
    Following the posting, the team will review applications and invite those they select to an interview.
    The team will decide, based on the interviews, who is in the pool. ONLY those who are selected from the pool will be eligible for counselor vacancies.


    POSITION:
    School Counselor

    REPORTS TO:
    Building Principal
    Lead Counselor Specialist

    GENERAL FUNCTION:
    Provide services to students, parents, school staff and the community. School counselors address the developmental needs of all students through a comprehensive school counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Monitors and evaluates student progress: interprets Standardized test scores, transcripts, assesses student credits and credit granting standards.
    • Coordinates individual and group counseling with students, parents and teaching staff in a collaborative manner.
    • Coordinates, develops and implements appropriate counseling services for the specific school population, i.e., student records, parent conferences, resource coordination, consultative services, information dissemination, planning and evaluation.
    • Develops a working knowledge of the computer and student scheduling procedures. (As applicable)
    • Acts as a liaison between the home, school and community in delivering student services.
    • Coordinates and administers college, career and post-secondary information and procedures for the school counseling program.
    • Coordinates the services provided by outside agency representatives.
    • Member of Crisis Intervention Team.
    • Participates actively in ongoing professional development activities.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Contact with Others:

    Internal: Teachers, administrators, school social workers, psychologists, nurses, career and college information center coordinators and others.

    External: Parents, social agencies, community representatives, college representatives, health professionals and post secondary institutions.

    Certification: School Counselor Certification/Licensure from the State of Ohio.

    Specification:
    Knowledge and Ability (Special Skills)
    Must know current counseling techniques, have effective oral and written communication skills, exhibit positive interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrate sound management, planning and organizational skills and serve as a consultant to the various
    constituents involved in the school counseling program.
