BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • have earned a minimum of a bachelor's degree,
  • have at least one year of successful experience working with students,
  • successful experience working with students with special needs,
  • have a favorable reference and/or evaluation from a recent supervisor, and
  • have met all the requirements to be eligible for employment in PWCS.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This job description is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Additionally, the scope of this job may change as necessary by the school division.

This is a one (1) year position for the 2023-24 school year. The pay is $220 per day. The TPOTA will receive a 195-day contract for 7 hours per day. This position is exempt and ineligible for overtime according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The position does have full benefits to include health insurance, Group Life, sick leave, personal leave, and investment in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:
  • Implements an instructional program, which provides appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction
  • Plans and delivers instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Curriculum documents regarding specific teaching assignments
  • Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Plans appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and kind and level of materials
  • Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school grounds and during lunch; this will not include the duty-free lunch, except in emergency situations; no student should be left alone
  • Cooperates with and participates in the planning and the evaluation of the school program
  • Requests the assistance of resource personnel as needed and works cooperatively to ensure an appropriate learning environment for all students
  • Participates in the professional development program of the school and School Division
  • Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff both school and non-school-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities
  • Follows the ethics of the profession
  • Supports actively a parent/teacher or parent/student organization and promotes parent/teacher partnerships
  • Enforces policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff in accordance with any program guidelines
  • Supervises pupil activities in buildings and on grounds during and after school hours and is responsible for the conduct and safety of students in the classroom and on school grounds; no group of students should be left unattended
  • Demonstrates prompt and accurate written communications and reports
  • Adheres to county and school disciplinary procedures
