POSITION SUMMARY

The School Psychology Intern provides direct services to students under the supervision of certified school psychologists. The internship's focus is developing and applying essential professional skills across multiple settings and with diverse student and family communities. Under supervision, School Psychology Interns will ultimately become familiarized with a variety of assessment, intervention, and consultation methods utilized in education, school psychology, and psychology. Interns will be prepared to practice at an early career School Psychologist level by the end of the internship.

ESSENTIONAL DUTIES
  • Remains on track to meet district, state, and university requirements for certification and mastery of skills in assessment, counseling, consultation, and programming
  • Integrates multiple sources of data to make appropriate recommendations, identify interventions, and select and administer appropriate assessment instruments
  • Adheres to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission's Code of Ethics for Educators, all Board policies and regulations, and all local school procedures
  • Under supervision, provides consultative support to parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Participates in departmental meetings, professional development, and debriefings
  • Under supervision, provides crisis intervention and therapeutic support for a student population
  • Participates in planning and conducting in-service and professional learning for staff and parents
  • Conducts parent conferences as needed to help parents understand the nature of their child's challenges and recommendations for parent support
  • Provides consultative support to schools in the areas of Response to Intervention and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed

Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.

Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions

Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.

Requirements :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Intern is required to be a student in a School Psychology training program and, based upon coursework and practicum completion, eligible for internship

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Intern is required to be on track to meet qualifications for Georgia Educational Certification in school psychology
  • Valid driver's license and availability of reliable, personal transportation

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Prior experience with working students in the K-12 schools setting
  • Completion of practicum year

  • Ability to collaborate with others and facilitate groups to consensus
  • Ability to collect, summarize, and graph data
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
