JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Programming, and the general direction of the Chief Student Support Officer, the Director of Student Attendance will play an integral role in coaching and supporting Attendance Teams, The Coordinator of Student Support and Attendance Liaision's, as it relates to the district strategy on attendance,reducing chronic absenteeism and increasing community outreach. The Director of Student Attendance will play an integral role as it relates to attendance data analysis, protocols and strategic planning to reduce chronic absenteeism.

Additionally the Director of Student Attendance will:
  • Have have acknowledge and understanding of the district attendance policy, attendance laws/regulations
  • Have knowledge and understanding of attendance intervention and prevention strategies
  • Have the ability to write policies and procedures
  • Have the ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Facilitate district professional development on attendance, including working with attendance teams and school leadership teams to support attendance
  • Engage in all district-driven attendance initiatives as defined by the Executive Director of Student Programming and the Chief Student Support Officer
  • Follow all relevant District procedures and policy
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree or better
  • At least two (5) years of successful leadership experience coaching/mentoring.
  • Central Office Administrative Experience Preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based best practices and tired intervention strategies to reduce chronic absenteeism
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and parent/community members
  • Must possess the ability to effectively present information in front of groups and engaged audiences
  • Demonstrated communication and group facilitation skill to effectively lead teams
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory/Highly proficient in technology and ability to utilize online platforms/Highly proficient in creating presentations and communicating with a wider audience
  • Bilingual candidates preferred
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  • Responsible for supervising the Coordinator of Student Support and the Attendance Liaison's
  • Responsible for working with and providing oversight of Culture Specialists and Culture Coordinators in organizing attendance support at specific schools in need of support
  • Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Programming, the Director is responsible for leading all projects designed to enhance student attendance
  • Responsible for meeting with principals, counselors, attendance teams, teachers and other staff members concerning student attendance in order to provide coaching and guidance to the whole school community of individual schools
  • Serves as the main resource along with the Coordinator of Student Support to administrators, schools counselors, nurses and teachers at schools regarding attendance programs, interpretation of policies and record keeping requirements
  • Reviews data and tiered interventions with school teams to provide additional attendance support
  • Collaborates with the district data team and school Executive Directors to develop a cycle of inquiry and protocol for reviewing attendance data
  • Meets with District Attendance Team to review data and interventions to provide next steps and priorities for schools
  • Responsible for monitoring the implementation of a tiered system of intervention approach for attendance
  • Responsible for reviewing the districts attendance plan template and revising as necessary
  • Responsible for tracking and monitoring all attendance plans districtwide
  • Responsible for coordinating community outreach for attendance support
  • Responsible for collaborating with the data team to develop a data capture resource for community outreach instead of the community outreach form
  • Responsible for developing, establishing and coordinating community resource contacts to assist with attendance for tier 3 interventions.
  • Maintains information systems on available community resources for use by schools and families
  • Serves as the liaison between schools and local agencies such as social services, court services regarding student attendance
  • If needed, models home visits for the Coordinator of Student Support and Attendance Teams
  • Responsible for facilitating community based meetings for parents that are designed to provide discussion and information on improving parent-to-school relationships which enhances student attendance
  • Responsible for working with schools to prepare appropriate recommendations on items such as student transfers in regards to attendance
  • Facilitate professional learning during the summer for school leadership teams and school administrators
  • Attend and engage in training on effective coaching strategies
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Director of Student Programming and the Chief Student Support Officer
