Elementary School Counselors Summer Learning Program 2023
Elementary School Counselor (2 positions)

Registration: June 26 - June 30, 2023
Program Dates: July 10 - August 17, 2023
Hours: Monday to Friday from 7:45 am - 12:15 pm (AM shift) and/or 11:45-5:15 (PM shift)

School counselors are an integral part of the summer learning program team providing planning, guidance, and credit allocation. Under the direction of the summer program Director and Coordinator, the counselor is responsible for ensuring that students who are off track for their graduation cohort year have the opportunity to recover credits. They are responsible for ensuring every senior leaving the Providence Public Schools after graduation has college or career goals. School counselors are expected to assist in the registration process once summer credit recovery starts to ensure students are taking the courses they need, and completing a thorough review of student histories for students in the summer learning program.

$40.00 per hour (Contingent upon funding)


Please Note: Selected candidates will be required to attend a two-hour onboarding session to be held on June 14 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Candidates who fail to attend that session will not be eligible to work in the summer Learning program. A communication detailing times and location will be sent prior to the on-boarding session.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
RIDE: PK-12 School Counselor

ESL Preferred
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  • Monitor targeted groups
  • Review daily attendance reports and contacting parents of absent students
  • Work with students who may need guidance and/or support throughout the entire summer program
  • Communicate and interact appropriately and professionally with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
  • Promote a school atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students
  • Support the summer program leadership team
  • Must commit to working all days of program
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • Current/valid RI Teacher Certificate Guidance PK-12 (MLL and/or SPED certifications preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited teacher education program
  • Demonstrated competence in comprehensive guidance and counseling services
  • Proven expertise with Skyward, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Thorough understanding of the high school course sequences and the requirements found in the PPSD Graduation Policy
  • An asset-based view of diverse cultures and a belief in growth mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
