The Opportunity:
The Cambridge Public Schools seeks a talented, energetic, and flexible educator to join us as a Library Technology Specialist for the 23-24 school year. This educator will collaborate and support all educators and students in the school, as well as serve as a collaborative member of the district Educational Technology and Library Media departments. The successful candidate will empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and producers of information.

Key Responsibilities :
Educator
  • Work with students and instructional staff to strengthen the use of digital tools and media-rich resources to create original projects/products
  • Provide resources and programs that promote independent reading and writing in a variety of genres and reading levels
  • Educate students and staff on the district's Acceptable Use Policy and other related policies and procedures that support appropriate use of technologies
  • Design, teach, and support professional learning opportunities for staff to increase proficiency with technology and digital resources
  • Incorporate antiracist instructional practices that are mindful and celebratory of historically marginalized cultures and perspectives
  • Commit to growing as a culturally responsive educator and to engaging in school professional development in support of making the school a more culturally responsive institution centered on equity
Instructional Partner
  • Provide outreach to teachers to develop collaborative relationships to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, multi-disciplinary literacies, critical thinking, and self-assessment
  • Collaborate with teachers and other instructional staff to develop curriculum that effectively integrates technology and ensures proficiency of the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science Framework and AASL Standards Framework
  • Work with instructional staff to ensure the development of skills related to digital, media and information literacy are embedded into learning across content areas
  • Explore, evaluate, and model new technologies in support of teaching and learning
  • Take an active role in school and district curriculum and leadership teams
Information Specialist
  • Ensure that students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information
  • Provide flexible access to all information and technology resources
  • Provide assistance in locating information and developing search strategy skills
  • Establish procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and sharing of print and digital resources
  • Develop, maintain, and promote a diverse collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the instructional strategies of the school community
Program Administrator
  • Oversee, manage and foster a creative, flexible and welcoming Learning Commons
  • Coordinate and support special events and programs such as guest authors and illustrators, authors in residence, family events
  • Collaborate and network with community and outside agencies (public libraries, area universities, technology organizations)
  • Work with the ICTS department to develop, implement, and update the district Library and Technology Plan and incorporate principles into school technology planning
  • Work with the Technology Support Technician to create and maintain student, teacher and staff accounts in a variety of online applications
  • Maintain an up to date inventory of all library and technology resources in the building, including equipment location, repair records, replacement/upgrade, and available software; develop, manage, and communicate procedures for technology resource allocation
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting for technical difficulties within the building, including but not limited to software, hardware and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Library Technology Specialist, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Familiarity with and skill in culturally responsive instruction.
  • Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities.
  • Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum. Training in Developmental Design a plus.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience leading instruction in urban school settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Knowledge of Mac and Chrome operating systems and extensions.
  • Three years of teaching experience or equivalent in the field of library or technology.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Education strongly preferred.
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Library Media and/or Digital Literacy and Computer Science, both preferred.
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
