Summer Learning School - Elementary Social Worker (2 positions)

PD Dates June 29, 30, 2023 and August 18, 2023
Program Dates: July 10- August 17, 2023
Hours: Monday to Friday from 7:45 am - 12:15 pm (AM shift) and/or 11:45-5:15 (PM shift)
Please Note: A teacher may opt in to do both shifts, however, teacher must commit for entire double shift schedule during the Summer Elementary Learning Program

Consistent with the Providence Public Schools' vision and mission, the Summer Learning Social Worker is to work in partnership with parents, students, educators, and outside agencies to promote student achievement and created safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students and to assist students in succeeding academically, socially and emotionally. The school social worker provides a full range of social work services to children in grades K-8.

A minimum of 10 students is required to run a course.

Please Note: Teachers will be compensated for the days in which they work between July 10 - August 17

$40.00 per hour (Contingent upon funding)

Please Note: Selected candidates will be required to attend a two-hour onboarding session to be held on June 14 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Candidates who fail to attend that session will not be eligible to work in the summer Learning program. A communication detailing times and location will be sent prior to the on-boarding session.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
RIDE: Current/valid RI Teacher Certificate in PK-12 Social Worker
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  • Implement social-emotional lessons and activities for elementary or middle school students in summer programming
  • Provide individual or group counseling support to aid student's social and academic adjustment as it pertains to assisting students in accessing education
  • Participate in planning and/or implementation of school or district level crisis response teams
  • Provides interventions in moments of emotional crisis for all students in the building
  • Conducts risk assessments for suicidal and homicidal ideation
  • Refers students in need to outside agencies and/or for emergency evaluations
  • Works as part of a school team to promote positive social/emotional relationships and culture and team teach social emotional learning curriculum, help administer pre and post SEL assessments and analyze SEL data.
  • Design and assist teams in implementing and monitoring behavior intervention plans for students and make data-based decisions regarding the effectiveness of the plan to meet the social/emotional needs of our students
  • Confer and consult with teachers, staff, families and outside agencies about strategies to facilitate the social and affective needs of students
  • Must commit to working all days of program as part of Summer Learning program requirements
  • Must commit to attend all professional development days as part of Summer Learning program
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • MSW in the applicable field of social work from an accredited college or university with a LCSW or LCISW.
  • Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, counsel and support students, three to twenty-one years of age.
  • Ability to develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each individual student.
  • Good communication and human relations skills needed in order to implement consultative programs with classroom teachers and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of the Team of Qualified Professionals and other school teams to implement administrative policies and procedures.
  • Formulate concise clinical reports and maintain complete longitudinal records on each student served.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Microsoft Office applications, email, web applications, and industry specific technology.
  • You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • Selected candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
