Job Summary:

Develops, organizes, maintains, and improves curricula; assesses effectiveness of curricula and instruction; provides guidance to teachers on their teaching methods.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Recommends instructional materials for classrooms across the school. Provides oversight and support in generating and executing pacing guides across the school. Assists teachers in incorporating technology into their lessons. Provides feedback to teachers based on observations and student performance data. Uses data to monitor schoolwide performance in meeting externally imposed standards. Responsible for leading accreditation reviews and implementation of resulting recommendations. May write and/or collaborate on grant proposals related to curriculum and instructional matters. Participates in or facilitates curriculum review committee. Teaches in classrooms periodically to provide IEP planning time and/or to substitute for absent staff. Promotes students’ safety and ensures proper student incident reporting. Ensures students’ programs comply with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); ensures each applicable student is provided with Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that is properly modified for his/her individual needs. Develops, completes, and maintains all paperwork mandated by local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations. Stays informed of trends in instructional methods and educational technology; maintains knowledge of special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development and study. Attends and contributes to team meetings/debriefings/workshops. Attends annual required abuse risk management training; adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising clients; reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations; and follows mandated abuse reporting requirements. Attends and/or completes all assigned employee training. May provide distance learning services, when necessary. Must comply with all ABC of NC policies and procedures. Promotes positive company morale. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to observe and move with children in their natural environments (e.g. school, outside, and/or in community)
    1. Must be able to sit on floor, on ground, and move easily in this capacity
    2. Must be able to utilize approved non-violent crisis intervention techniques with clients of all ages who may engage in aggressive, self-injurious, or destructive behaviors
    3. Must be able to lift small children
    4. Must be able to teach and assist with toileting and other hygiene skills
    5. Must be able to perform the following gross motor activities:
  • Walking (e.g. with a child around campus) Climbing (e.g. stairs, playground equipment, etc.) Bending over (e.g. to assist child) Squatting (e.g. to assist child putting on shoes) Running (e.g. running through a sprinkler with a child) Running (e.g. being able to keep a running child safe) Carrying (e.g. teaching materials, toys, art supplies, etc.) Standing for prolonged periods and walking throughout school and classroom Sitting for prolonged periods and working on computer to complete necessary paperwork Must be able to perform the following fine motor activities:

 

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills):

  1. NC Curriculum Instructional Specialist Licensure or NC Exceptional Children Program Administrator Licensure preferred, or NC Special Education Teacher Licensure Bachelor’s degree in education or closely related field; Master’s degree preferred Two years of experience in special education highly preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all students Thorough understanding of various special education needs and services. Thorough understanding of and the ability to implement a variety of effective teaching methods. Thorough understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including IDEA, IEPs, and 504. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Computer skills including for communication, networking, graphing, etc. using the software and devices supplied by ABC of NC Must pass a criminal background check and healthcare registry check Must pass all drug screenings during time of employment
