General Statement of Duties

Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Performs assigned duties proficiently for the Teen/Digital Media public service support area in a permanent part-time capacity; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Henrico County Public Library is seeking Part-Time Public Service Specialists I in Teens, to support customer service at various locations. This posting may also be used to fill additional Part-Time Public Service Specialist I Teen positions throughout the library system.
Primary assigned duties include responding accurately to patrons' needs and inquiries; and developing, scheduling and facilitating programming for one assigned service area (teen). Demonstrates sound working knowledge of the principles and practices of library science; sound working knowledge of the programming, resources and best practices for one assigned services area; and sound working knowledge of Library policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience with digital media content creation, programming for teens, computer instruction, and customer service is preferred. This position will assist in the delivery of quality library digital media programs and events such as 3D design, Adobe Creative Suite, and audio/visual workshops. This position will assist digital media users with their reference needs related to software and hardware within the library's digital media lab. Familiarity or aptitude with the Adobe Creative Suite, 3D printing, podcasting, scanning, photography, and digital media in general is helpful. Work is performed as assigned at locations Countywide with minimal direction from the supervisor and senior staff.
Essential Duties for the Public Services Specialist I level in Information Services: proficiently performs the duties assigned to Teen/Digital Media including but not limited to responding to patrons' questions and needs, accurately entering and tracking patrons' questions in library database; provides support to Librarian for programs and activities in one service area; maintains current working knowledge of industry best practices, methods, techniques, equipment, etc.; may facilitate "canned" programs and activities and assists with the planning or development of programs and activities as assigned; may develop programs and activities under general supervision as assigned; provides basic patron assistance with providing accurate information related to material availability and may place holds for patrons as needed; accurately provides information in response to patrons' needs and inquiries and accurately enters and tracks patrons' questions in library database as required; assists with special projects as assigned; effectively collaborates with and assists Librarians and colleagues as assigned; assists with training Library Associates or volunteers; attends all scheduled meetings and required training and maintains all required certifications; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma/GED, with relevant college coursework or degree preferred and one (1) year of relevant customer service experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

This position is part of a Career Development Series and does allow for advancement opportunities within the position and can be filled at any level.
These are 20 hours/week positions with opening, closing and weekend shifts required including alternating Fridays and Saturdays and also Sunday hours on rotation.
Please be aware that while we are hiring for specific positions, staff can be moved to other location or services areas for the good of the library at anytime.
The expected hiring range will be between $16.76 and 17.56 per hour.
