    The Cincinnati Public Schools invites applications for the position of Senior Director of Safety Services. This position reports to the Chief of Staff. The Senior Director of Safety Services leads the overall safety and security department including the procedures, staff, operations, strategic planning and procedure development for the district's Safety Services Department. This position advises district leadership in matters of safety, security, and emergency preparedness to assure the safety and security of district students, staff, and facilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master's degree in police science, criminal justice, business administration or emergency management, educational leadership or a related field.
    • Seven years or more of planning and leadership experience in professional law enforcement or private security or senior level educational leadership, including experience leading the administration of emergency operations programs which can include school building operations, with at least five years in a supervisory or management role providing direct supervision and training of law enforcement, safety/security personnel, or school and/or district staff
    • Experience providing safety/security services for educational facilities in a richly diverse community is preferred
    • Experience coordinating physical safety audits Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), ALICE and Ohio Peace Officer Training (OPOTA) preferred

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    The Senior Director of Safety Services has the following performance responsibilities:
    • Develops the vision for and oversees the implementation of a comprehensive security/school safety program, policies and procedures; establishes internal controls, conducts inspections, reports potential hazards to appropriate departments
    • Oversees the development and implementation of short and long range district planning for safety and emergency preparedness programs, policies and procedures for schools, central staff functions and special events
    • Oversees and enforces school safety compliance with federal, state and local regulations; ensures the emergency management plan is submitted by all schools and to the state
    • In conjunction with the Cabinet supervisor, oversees, monitors and approves budget and staffing decisions for safety and security
    • Develops, proposes, reviews, approves and oversees the implementation of department activities, projects, budgets, equipment, staffing assignments, schedules and projected outcomes; ensures compliance with district policies and procedures in response to all school safety/security needs and emergency situations
    • Seeks grant funding support to enhance the safety and security of the district
    • Supervises the performance of the overall Safety Services team, safety managers and supervisors, security response team, school security assistants and other assigned personnel to ensure safety/security procedures and best practices are followed consistently; assigns supervisory and evaluation responsibilities as needed; interviews and selects employees and recommends transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions
    • Ensures all safety personnel meet the standards and certifications to best serve the district
    • Serves as the primary district contact for community partners and local law enforcement agencies, emergency responders and private security contractors to coordinate safety activities
    • Collaborates with Cincinnati Police Department School Resources Officers program to create and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students, teachers and staff
    • Manages the activities of designated staff and contractors including determining that safety related procedures are followed in district buildings and at district activities or events
    • Manages and/or advises on district response to critical incidents on or near district property
    • Responds to inquiries from the public and district staff on a variety of school safety issues; communicates news and information regarding emerging situations with district leadership and the Board of Education as appropriate
    • Compiles, reviews and understands complex data analyses and provides information to district leadership to make data-informed decisions in the area of security and emergency planning; develops scorecards, reports, memos, procedures, manuals and other documents regarding operations and safety/security issues; ensures the maintenance of detailed records of safety department priorities, goals, strategies and measures
    • Participates in planning meetings with district stakeholders and community representatives; establishes partnerships to secure assistance or commitments for district safety needs
    • Prepares a variety of presentations and provides technical expertise and reports to district leadership, Board of Education, district employees, parents or other stakeholders regarding safety issues, concerns or threats; serves on district committees, attends staff meetings and represents the district in meetings, hearings, workshops, conferences and professional activities
    • Develops a thorough knowledge and application of the district's Positive Behavior Support program and Culturally Responsive Practices; participates in and plans staff development and trainings related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and in K-12 school buildings; models appropriate behaviors; develops, recommends, implements and communicates improvements to schools and business practices with awareness and understanding of their impact in a racially and culturally diverse community
    • Develops a thorough knowledge and application of the district's Quality Improvement methods to achieve improvements in school safety
    • Works with district General Counsel, Human Resources, Chief of Staff and Superintendent's office on confidential employment or other security matters
    • Develops a thorough knowledge of the information technology systems used by the district such as PowerSchool, G Suite (Google Apps), Microsoft Office and Business Plus.
    CONTRACT PROVISIONS

    Type Contract: Limited 260 days

    SALARY RANGE: Director II - Per CAAS Agreement
