General Statement of Duties

The School Security Officer is a 200-days, 8 hours per day position. Starting annual salary: $30,473.94 for the 2023/2024 school year. This individual will ensure the safety, security and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Essential Duties

Patrols campus, inside and outside, to maintain order and discipline and prevent crime Works school-sponsored events, as assigned, to maintain order and discipline and prevent crime Investigates student violations of School Board policies Detains students violating the law until a law enforcement officer arrives Escorts disruptive students to the office Prevents unauthorized persons from entering and leaving school grounds Assists in the sale of parking permits Reports criminal activity to the appropriate school official or authority Deters disruptive pupil behavior Reports truants to the main office Attends work daily and is engaged in duties Adheres to the school security officer dress code Submits a written report of daily activities Submits written incident reports Attends training as required Models appropriate behavior for students to emulate Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to follow oral and written directions Ability to work well with people A strong desire to work with school-aged youth, professional educators, law enforcement personnel, school staff, and parents Have a high school diploma or equivalent Any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Three middle schools offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program and two high schools offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma program.

The division also has cutting-edge programs in career and technical education, at individual schools and at two Advanced Career Education centers. From learning about sustainable seafood in culinary arts classes to applying technology concepts at Richmond Raceway, HCPS’ Department of Career and Technical Education helps students become effective participants in the international economy.
