All of our students study Spanish and take Kodaly music classes four days per week. This performance-based music education system brings music to life through multicultural folk songs, dances,
singing games, art, jazz, and classical music.

The Opportunity:
The Grade 4 Teacher must believe in and take ownership of the Fletcher-Maynard Academy Mission: The Fletcher-Maynard Academy is committed to building and nurturing a community of caring citizens who are life-long learners. With perseverance and courage, this community fosters respect for cultural and social diversity, family, and education. The Grade 4 Teacher reports directly to the Principal of the School and is expected to work closely with content coaches and other appropriate staff. They will provide a safe and nurturing learning environment with high expectations for all students. The teacher will provide for the development of basic skills and support, and will work with special needs staff relative to the appropriate integration of special needs students into the regular classroom. The teacher will provide opportunities for children to work and share collaboratively and to develop a strong sense of respect for self and others. The teacher will work cooperatively with a team to develop a strong school program incorporating both state and district frameworks. The teacher will also be asked to serve on school-wide committees, work in collaboration with their colleagues in cluster meetings and help organize school-wide events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The teacher will teach all elementary subjects.
  • The teacher will implement the Responsive Classroom model, including daily class meetings and responsive school discipline.
  • The teacher will collaborate closely with the other 4th grade teacher.
  • The teacher will collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to, the 3rd grade team, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel.
  • Incorporate a variety of assessment strategies including district wide exams and formative assessment in order to inform instruction and target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning into the classroom and will work to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community.
  • Partner with families and include them in the students' learning and development.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Grade 4 Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Massachusetts State Elementary teacher certification and SEI Endorsement (required)
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to find joy, belonging, challenge and growth each day
  • Experience and practice working with children at the 3rd, 4th or 5th grade level
  • Knowledge and experience with Responsive Classroom, culturally responsive teaching practices and MTSS.
  • 3+ years of experience in instruction
  • Demonstrated success elevating the achievement levels of a diverse student body, including the ability to work successfully with students, colleagues, and families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds is preferred.
