The mission of Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for students by incorporating school and community/family partnerships coupled with a rigorous curriculum along with a data-driven and student-centered instructional model. The Intervention Specialist works with "At-Risk" students identified by their general education teacher to help remediate students who are behind grade level.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Modifies and/or adapts the K12 curriculum in alignment with the state's content standards to meet the unique needs of each student;
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to meet the goals of the targeted students through individualized and small group sessions;
  • Educates parents on various instructional strategies;
  • Prepares appropriate documentation on interventions;
  • Proctors achievement and other required testing to students including alternative assessments if required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Minimum one year of classroom experience AND
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: State certification. Must meet HQ requirements for grade levels served.

Endorsement: BA

Residency Requirement: Must be a Michigan resident

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, presentation skills, and the ability to work without direct supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); Web proficiency
  • Flexible schedule with ability to travel up to 20% of the time for meetings
  • Ability to pass required background check

DESIRED Qualifications:
  • Experience working with "At Risk" students.
