General Description

Coordinate the Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chesterfield program at the secondary school level including planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of resources and services. Employee will implement the integrated student support model by connecting student and school needs to community partners and resources within and outside of the school system.

Essential Job Functions
  • Lead the annual school needs assessment process. This will be based on data collected by school districts and schools as part of the overall school improvement initiative; surveys and discussions with staff, families, and students; and evaluation results from the previous year.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the CIS Site Plan. The plan will include measurable objectives, as well as procedures for delivering school wide services, targeted and sustained services, monitoring and adjusting services, and evaluating and reporting effectiveness to CIS and school leadership.
  • Design and implement a model secondary school CIS program to deliver evidence-based services focused on academics, behavior, and attendance.
  • Case manage students through targeted and sustained services that will be coordinated and provided at the school site for specific students who are identified as those in the most need of services.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of achieving school-wide and student individualized goals by collection and analyzation of data.
  • Provide timely data as required to CIS Administrator, CIS Program Manager, CIS Board of Directors, and CIS state and national offices.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate community volunteers to support identified student and school needs.
  • Secure and connect resources to support identified student and school needs.
  • Maintain a positive CIS image inside and outside the school. Understand, demonstrate, and communicate the mission and goals of CIS.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and productive relationship with both school and CIS staff.
  • Attend CIS local, state, and national meetings and trainings as appropriate. Demonstrate commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Budgetary Responsibility: Assist in the preparation of budget request and revision; recommend purchases and expenditures; maintain financial records.

Report Preparation: Assist in the preparation of regular reports for presentation to the School Board, CIS Board of Directors, and community on issues related to Communities in Schools. Complete all reports required by CIS National and Chesterfield.

Equipment Operation: Utilize a personal computer and general office equipment and equipment and educational related equipment.

Contacts: CCPS instructional and administrative personnel; students and families; CIS staff; public and private partners.

Work Direction/Supervision: CIS Administrator, CIS Program Manager, and School Principal.

Decision Making: Frequent independent decision-making, with support of the CIS Administrator and Program Manager.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: N/A

Physical Demands: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal indoor levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Frequent movement throughout the school facilities is required.

Work Environment: Duties performed typically in school settings to include: CIS office, classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is necessary.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of best practices with at-risk students, low-income communities, and alternative education. Demonstrated ability to develop and support individualized goals for students. Experience in planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of resources and services. Prior experience working with families and schools with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, and ability to effectively communicate in Spanish are strongly preferred

Requirements

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in education, school counseling, social work, or related field. Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
