Bishop Dunne Catholic School: Spanish Teacher  

Bishop Dunne Catholic School seeks a Spanish Teacher, with department chair responsibility starting in August 2023.   

Mission Statement  
Bishop Dunne Catholic School empowers each student to explore, inquire, lead, and serve through a college preparatory education in a joyful community of faith.  Bishop Dunne is the only Catholic diocesan school that enrolls students in grades six through twelve.  The Bishop Dunne student body mirrors the diversity of Dallas, with over 75% identifying as students of color, and approximately half the students are Catholic.   

Job Requirements:  
The candidate will be a dedicated professional who understands the joys and demands of teaching and is able to design daily lessons that meet the goals of the classes, complete grading, maintain an advisory group and lead advisory group meetings, as well as perform all basic administrative duties (ex. maintain attendance records, accurate grade book, comment writing). Our teachers are fully engaged in the life of the school and inspire students to reach their potential. The department chair observes and mentors teachers, helping to build competency and support student learning. We seek educators who see themselves as learners as well as providers of knowledge, which means we want teachers to want to be part of a learning community and collaborate with their peers in each of their responsibilities.  

Education/Experience Requirements:  

  • A Master's degree in Spanish from an accredited university, or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in Spanish 
  • Experience teaching AP Language and Literature courses  
  • A valid Texas teaching certificate for grades 7-12 or a minimum of 12 hours of appropriate courses in education  
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills  
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills; competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization  
  • Strong technology skills for use in instructional and professional tasks  

FLSA Classification: Exempt - Professional 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., after school hours as required 

Reports to: Principal 

General Duties:  
The mission of the Catholic school is to “Teach as Jesus did,” thereby mandating teachers in our schools to be reflections of Christ’s love and concern.  The Classroom Teacher plans, guides, and evaluates the learning process of students.  This position reports to the assistant principal and has decision-making responsibilities within the framework of school policies, philosophy, organization, and curriculum. 

All candidates must be able to pass background checks and comply with the Diocese of Dallas Safe Environment Program. Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
