SPED Inclusion Specialist
(Teacher on Special Assignment)

General Statement
Teacher on special assignment.
Under the supervision of the Director of Specialized Instruction, the inclusion specialist works side by side with parents, administrators, classroom teachers, and other staff to promote student success and provide technical assistance to promote the successful inclusion and academic progress of students with disabilities. The inclusion specialist will also collaborate in the evaluation and support of high-quality co-teaching district special education programs and supports staff development activities for students, parents, teachers, and administrators that support high-quality inclusive education instructional programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Assist in the development and improvement of co-teaching programs across the district (assigned schools)
Collaborate and consult with teams regarding differentiation, accommodations, and modifications for students with disabilities in the general education setting
Provide direction and guidance in using student data to develop individualized programs
Provide professional development and guidance to school teams to ensure students' instructional access to the general education setting
Consult with school teams and serve as a resource
Demonstrate current, researched-based practices to foster inclusion in school settings

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge and skill in applying IDEA requirements and procedures
Ability to maintain cooperative and professional relationships
Ability to plan and conduct coaching activities
Experience serving as a co-teacher and working in inclusive environments
Experience working with students who display emotional and behavioral challenges
Can work independently and collaboratively
Ability to solve problems

Qualifications
CT Special Education Certification
MA in Special Education, Education
092 preferred but not required

Experience
Minimum of 5 successful years of teaching
Experience with inclusion, co-teaching, and self-contained models
Experience and expertise in areas related to teaching and coaching adults
