Director of Religious Education

The Director of Religious Education (DRE) for Our Lady of Refuge is responsible for overseeing the religious education program within the parish. The DRE should have a personal relationship with Christ and understand the importance of evangelization in all areas of the Church. The DRE is responsible for ensuring that all programs are aligned with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church, and are designed to promote spiritual growth, understanding of Catholic doctrine, and a sense of community among participants.

Some of the specific duties of a Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Refuge may include:

1. Work as a member of a team of the entire parish staff.
2. Developing and implementing religious education programs for children, youth, and adults, including sacramental preparation programs (e.g., First Communion, Confirmation).
3. Be familiar with or willing to become knowledgeable with The Chosen confirmation program
4. Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer catechists and other staff members to assist with the implementation of religious education programs.
5. Collaborating with parish or diocesan leadership to ensure that all programs are aligned with the broader mission and goals of the Church.
6. Developing and managing the religious education budget, including fundraising efforts to support programs and activities.
7. Providing ongoing training and support for catechists and other staff members to ensure they are equipped to effectively teach and mentor participants.
8. Developing and implementing strategies to engage parents and families in the religious education process and encouraging participation in other parish or diocesan activities.
9. Monitoring the progress of participants and providing support and resources to address any challenges or concerns that arise.
10. Ensuring that all religious education programs follow Church policies and guidelines, and maintaining accurate records and reports as required.
11. Act as the Staff liaison to the Discipleship (Education) Commission
12. Act as the Head Coordinator for the Family of Parishes in the Waters of Light Family.
13. Work in conjunction with the school and its religious formation.

The Director of Religious Education is a critical role at Our Lady of Refuge that requires a deep understanding of Catholic theology and traditions, as well as strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The DRE is responsible for creating an environment that fosters spiritual growth, promotes community building, and supports the overall mission of the Church.
