JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Media Coordinator Position

Job Summary:

The media coordinator's role exists to ensure that library media centers throughout the district contain up-to-date materials that will equip students and staff with the tools needed to obtain and utilize information. The media coordinator will oversee the operation of all elementary and middle school library media centers and will serve as a liaison between the staff of all library media centers (elementary and middle schools) and the district office and the district technology department.

Essential Job Functions:
    Oversight of the operation of Elementary media centers and assist with the oversight of the Middle School media centers

    Train the media personnel in the use of the Destiny library management system and the management of a media center

    Answer questions and provide direction to the media assistants, including such areas as copyright and challenged materials

    Assist each of the schools in the weeding process; ordering, cataloging, and entering of materials; and conducting periodic analyses of collections for weeding/ordering purposes

    Assist staff and students in developing bibliographies and locating materials for specific projects

    Conduct quarterly meetings with all media specialists in the district for the purpose of dispensing information, promoting collegial work and distributing materials

    Work with principals on media center matters and attend principals' meetings as requested/needed

    Serve as a member of the curriculum committees for new district adoptions

    Work to develop/update media standards/procedures across the district

    Develop lesson plans to be delivered by media personnel

    Meet with the district technology supervisor regularly to address/discuss concerns, ideas, new technology and media center technology needs

    Coordinate updates, back-ups and operation of the Destiny system with district technicians

    Conduct inservice training for school staff as needed and/or directed by district officials

    Prompt and regular attendance

    Ability to:

      Understanding of and ability to relate to the needs of students of different ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds

      Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
      • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
    • Skills in planning, developing, and implementing curriculum. Effective communication skills with students, parents and other school personnel.

      Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices, curriculum, district, state and federal education laws, regulations and policies

      Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parent, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision.
    Education Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    Licenses, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
    • Oregon teacher's license

      Media Endorsement

      Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance

      Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
