SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Middle Schools is responsible for the overall student achievement and successful operations of Pueblo School District 60's middle schools and programs. The individual will lead efforts to improve student learning through the direct supervision of school administration and be responsible for supporting, guiding, problem solving, and coaching school administrators in instructional leadership, building a positive and effective school culture, and management of personnel. They will guide, support, coach, and develop school administrators with instructional practices that support the mission, vision, and core values of the District. The Director of Middle Schools will directly be responsible for assisting assigned school in all efforts to improve school leadership, culture, systems, structures, instructional practices, and philosophies, for the purpose of ensuring student academic growth. Significant emphasis will be placed on supporting, coaching, and evaluating principals; including leading district-level professional development, facilitating job-embedded principal learning labs, and working collaboratively with other district instructional leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
  • Colorado Principal License within 60 days from date of hire
  • Master's Degree in education curriculum, school administration, or related field
  • Three (3) years of successful Principal experience
  • Five (5) years of professional work experience in public education leadership
  • Valid Colorado Driver License
  • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

PREFERRED:
  • Previous experience in District level administration
  • Secondary level administrative experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive secondary education program aimed at preparing every student for success
  • Ability to lead improvement efforts toward identified instructional targets by motivating and mentoring building-level administrators and facilitating systemic change strategies, with an emphasis on progressive educational practices
  • Experience in supervision of and contribution to the performance evaluations of school leaders
  • Ability to coach and develop other instructional coaches
  • Knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction, policy and procedure, management, accounting, interpersonal relations, program evaluation, leadership development, school improvement, budget management, negotiation, and use of technology
  • Skill in consensus building and conflict resolution

  • Develop principals to lead and manage highly-effective instructional teams and accelerate both teacher practices and student achievement
  • Supervise all educational programs within assigned education level in order to ensure maximum student outcomes and performance.
  • Monitor school and student performance to determine the effectiveness of educational programs and take appropriate efforts towards improvement as well as recognizing successes
  • Develop the implementation of short-term and long-term educational and improvement plans that support the mission, vision, and core values of the District
  • Collaborate with Executive Directors and appropriate staff to ensure continuous improvement efforts are supported.
  • Promote and supervise the implementation of Board of Education and District policies at assigned school within education level
  • Recruit, hire, evaluate, promote, and discipline building administration staff within assigned education level.
  • As warranted, assess staffing requisite to achieve expected outcomes; accordingly, set individual and school building goals and related priorities with the school building administrator.
  • Provide support to school leaders regarding strategic use of time, people, and money (budget process, personnel hiring, scheduling, etc.) to ensure quality and equity of educational opportunities for all students
  • Analyze school reports and performance data to provide direction and program planning.
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate professional learning network and opportunities for principals, focusing on their growth in instructional leadership
  • Engage principals in professional development, based on their learning needs
  • Work cooperatively with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, in the management of assigned responsibilities as directed
  • Provides leadership to principals as they develop programs to help students reach benchmarks and higher state standards
  • Develops, manages, and supports school and level budgets and staffing allocations
  • Collaborates with schools and departments in staff development activities for instructional staff
  • Provides leadership to school improvement , analyzes data of schools and supports the development and improvement of school improvement plans for academic success and monitor progress through out the process to include the appropriate use of interventions as well as culturally responsive practices
  • Provides the essential communication network to buildings and staff
  • Coordinates with colleagues, advises and plans for special/support programs
  • Processes fiscal documents and ensures that schools follow procedures related to contracts and purchasing
  • Facilitates development of scheduling models that promote successful teaching and learning
  • Assists with middle school summer extended learning planning
  • Lead data-driven discussions and decision making structures
  • Attend Board of Education meetings, plan and present information to the Board as requested by the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Serve as a team member to Learning Services Leadership Team and the Superintendent's Cabinet and actively participate in district-wide planning, development, and evaluation to support school development; align resources to meet the District's goals.
  • Respond directly to parent concerns and support principals to address parental concerns
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the timely coordination of instruction and school site operations, including maintenance, transportation, construction, food services, human resources, and public relations

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee will work primarily in a school/office environment with both natural and fluorescent lighting; fast-paced work, constant interruptions; The noise level is usually quiet in an office environment but can be noisy at times.
