Special Education Instructional Coach

General Statement
This position is categorized as a Teacher on Special Assignment.

Under the supervision of the Director of Specialized Instruction, the Special Education Instructional Coach works in assigned school settings with special education teachers to plan, deliver, and implement high quality instruction. The coach reinforces and models standards-based teaching and learning and best-practice strategies to ensure student success and greater access in the general education setting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Model instructional strategies and student grouping practices, and feedback to teachers of students with IEPs
Utilize effective instructional and coaching strategies, including providing and sharing professional resources to support the development of effective teaching practices
Plan, organize and conduct class visits
Attend, facilitate, and or assist special education teachers and related service personnel in preparing for PPT meetings
Attend grade level team meetings and facilitate discussion regarding students with special needs goals and evidence of growth
Develop a supportive and reflective relationship with teachers
Coach and assist teachers with curriculum development, lesson plans, classroom management, schedules
Facilitate PLCs and provide opportunities for reflection, collaboration, and coaching
Establish and maintain clear communications and cooperative working relationships with educators
Demonstrate working knowledge and use of instructional strategies for working with the diverse needs of learners across all settings
Facilitate professional development as needed
Prepare reports and maintain files
Demonstrate best practices to foster inclusion in the general education setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and skill in applying IDEA requirements and procedures
Knowledge of coaching models and resources to support standards-based instruction
Skills in effective oral and written communication
Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team
Ability to teach and coach adults
Ability to maintain cooperative and professional relationships
Ability to plan and conduct coaching activities
Knowledge of Diverse learning styles
Successful experience working with culturally diverse families

Qualifications
CT Special Education Certification
MA in Special Education
Minimum of 5 successful years of teaching
Experience with inclusion, co-teaching, and self-contained models
Experience and expertise in areas related to teaching and coaching adults
