​Mountain Sage Community School is a K-8 public, charter school inspired by Waldorf education and sustainable living, and is located in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado.  

Our school is currently seeking an experienced, organized, and thoughtful person to fulfill the role as Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge in all aspects of special education for children ages 5-14, be comfortable in a supervisory role and able to manage a team effectively, possess some knowledge of Waldorf education and child development, and be looking to join a collaborative community for the long term. The typical hours for this position are 8-4, Monday-Friday, during the school year, with some additional hours for all-school events. 

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time 

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week 

WORK CALENDAR DAYS: 190

BASE PAY: $40,000 plus increases per the salary schedule

REPORTS TO: School Director 

 

 

Minimum Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
Support students receiving integrated services on a daily basis through:

 

  • Instructing students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) individually, in small groups, and in the general education setting

     

    Assisting other Mountain Sage teachers with instruction of Special Education students in the framework of district and state academic standards and in alignment with the school’s Waldorf-inspired curriculum

     

    Maintaining and managing required documentation, adhering to federal, state and district guidelines for all student reporting and deadlines 

     

    Working with the Integrated Services team to develop and manage IEPs

     

    Coordinating the scheduling of staff and parents for IEP meetings

     

    Collaborating with the school Intervention Team, as needed

     

    Developing course content, format, structure

     

    Organizing schedules of students to ensure delivery of support services

     

    Creating and managing the schedules and tasks of paraprofessionals toward implementation of student support services

     

    Working with school’s authorizer, Poudre School District, and its representatives, as needed

     

    Communicating student progress and needs with parents and staff

     

    Understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity

     

    Upholding school policies and rules with students

     

    Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

     

    Participating in school social and cultural events

     

    Coverage and other duties as assigned

     

Required Qualifications

  • Desire to learn Mountain Sage’s philosophy, to implement the school’s Waldorf-inspired program, and to uphold and promote the mission and values of the school

     

    Colorado Special Education Teacher licensure for K-8

     

    Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) required within 3 months of hire

     

    2+ years of experience working with special needs students in a classroom setting

     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Waldorf teacher certification and/or experience

     

    Experience with the online platform, Enrich, for IEP management

     

    Familiarity with Poudre School District IS processes and procedures

     

    Ability to engage in Waldorf special education training 

     

    Knowledge of restorative practices in schools

     

    Understanding of experiential learning

     

Physical Requirements

Must be able to:

 

  • Stand for an extended period

     

    Work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme winter conditions/temperatures

     

    Take children to nearby nature trails and areas for extended periods of time in all weather conditions, located within walking distance

     

    Maneuver uneven surfaces

     

    Carry or transfer up to 20lbs

     

    Work in occasionally loud environments

     

    Frequently use office technology including walkie talkie, phone, computer, copiers, and printers

     

    Use commercial office tools including paper cutters and stapler

     

Compensation

Minimum base salary of $40,000 with potential increase dependent upon education and experience. We offer state retirement benefits (PERA), health benefits, PTO, a 3-year loyalty bonus, and yearly professional development opportunities..
