PART-TIME GOSPEL OF LIFE ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Job Summary
The Gospel of Life Engagement Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Evangelical Charity. The Gospel of Life Engagement Coordinator supports the Gospel of Life (GOL) Coordinator in promoting a culture of life in the Archdiocese of Detroit. This will be accomplished through prayer, education, advocacy, and parish engagement, supporting the life, dignity, and rights of the human person from the moment of conception to natural death. This position has, as a priority, the recruiting, training, and supporting of parish volunteers for implementing Walking with Moms in Need (WWMIN) ministry as an "ongoing work of mercy" in our family of parishes. This is accomplished primarily by working as part of a WWMIN team with parish volunteers and staff and developing working relationships with community groups and leaders.

Duties/Responsibilities
Works with Associate Director of Evangelical Charity and Gospel of Life Coordinator to infuse a Culture of Life identity across the eight lenses of Evangelical Charity in AOD Family of Parishes. [W(1]
Eight Lenses of Evangelical Charity:
  • Human Services: Ministries aimed at addressing a specific human need.
  • Care Ministries: Ministries aimed at caring for a specific population of individuals.
  • Community Outreach: Ministries and activities that partner with and/or support other community agencies and efforts.
  • Mental Health and Crisis: Ministries that respond to the mental health and crisis needs of community members through the combination of direct and spiritual support.
  • Bereavement: Ministries that accompany community members as they find hope and healing through the grief process.
  • Pro-Life Ministries : Ministries that support-- through prayer, education, advocacy and pastoral service-- the dignity of life from Conception to natural death seeking to build a culture of life.
  • Fraternal Organizations: Societies and conferences that operate for the service of the parish and the poor and for the Christian formation and fraternal support of their membership.
  • Justice Ministries: Ministries that advocate for justice and advance the vision of Catholic Social Teaching in the parish and the public square.
  • Assists Gospel of Life Coordinator in planning, coordinating, and integrating the Gospel of Life four pillar objectives of the Archdiocese on behalf of the Archbishop. These include Prayer, Education, Advocacy, and Pastoral Outreach, such as WWMIN.
  • Assists Gospel of Life Coordinator in creating and sharing G.O.L Educational materials and initiatives in Family of Parishes, with a particular focus on WWMIN.
  • Assists in implementing the Walking with Moms in Needs (WWMIN) ongoing work of mercy in AOD families of parishes as part of our post-proposal 3 response.
  • Collaborates with Catholic Charities of Southeast MI WWMIN team.
  • Helps maintain Gospel of Life Disciples parish/partner database.
  • Helps Maintain WWMIN Parish leader's database.
  • Triages calls and emails from parishes requesting assistance with WWMIN ministry.
  • Collaborate with WWMIN team members to prepare training as needed.
  • Creates and updates WWMIN Literature as needed with team input.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining robust, relevant website content for WWMIN and GOL.
  • Assists in writing WWMIN and GOL newsletter content.
  • Builds relationships with our community pro-life mission partners.
  • Keeps informed of various life issues.
  • Approaches the Gospel of Life Ministries with a prayerful presence.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong MS Office 365 and computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time while paying attention to details.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively and strategically with various staff and stakeholders.
  • Strong public-speaking, presentation and training skills.
  • Must know, understand and be able to effectively communicate the teachings of the Catholic Church in the areas of Catholic social teachings as presented in Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals, specifically Evangelium Vitae, other relevant Church documents.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding and ability to effectively communicate the Catholic Church's teaching on Human Dignity, Evangelization, and the Kerygma, as revealed in Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Must have strong knowledge of national trends in catechetics and religious education.
  • Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Catechesis, or Pastoral ministry preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related ministry experience preferred.
  • Certificate of completion of Protecting God's Children or willingness to attend the workshop required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged sitting and working at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • May involve some standing, bending, and walking.
Travel Required
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any archdiocesan information gained within the Archdiocese of Detroit especially highly sensitive material such as protected Personally Identifiable Information and financial information.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
