PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for supporting the Library Media Technology Specialist in performing the duties related to the Library Media Center programs and activities.

REPORTS TO: Library Media Technology Specialist

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-10
WORK DAYS: 200

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the K12 field or one that supports the functions of a Library Media Center. Must meet Highly Qualified criteria for state paraprofessional licensure
Preferred : Candidate intends to enroll in a program pursuing Master's Degree in Instructional Technology or a state-approved certification preparation program in Media Specialist at the Master's degree level (Level 5) or higher

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • One year experience working in a library or media center
  • Proven ability for effective working relationships with students and staff
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to perform clerical and technical support duties
  • Knowledge and understanding of library circulation software and materials processing, to include material and patron imports, record editing, materials inventory, and system maintenance
  • Skill in using a variety of technology tools; hardware and software
  • Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service, prioritize one's work, and show teamwork skills even in stressful situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to conduct presentations, write comprehensive reports, as well as hold training sessions and lead group meetings
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Performs duties as assigned by the Library Media Technology Specialist.
  2. Organizes and maintains the routine operation of a school library media center; receives processes, circulates, and shelves print and non-print materials.
  3. Provides students access to materials in all formats, including up-to-date, high quality, varied literature to develop and strengthen a love of reading.
  4. Operates the computerized circulation system including checking materials in and out, and creating and distributing overdue notices and fines.
  5. Catalogs and maintains all resources according to MARC standards.
  6. Supports and work with teachers to design, teach, and create 21st century lessons for an engaging learning experience tailored to the needs of the students. In addition, assesses student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  7. Supports and work with teachers on the integration of technology into all areas of the curriculum and instructional practices
  8. Maintains routine records and files related to media center activities including circulation of books, monies collected, and lost materials.
  9. Supervises students during media center visits.
  10. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be the classified 200 day schedule. Non-Exempt (G-10)

OFFICE Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
