PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides direction and coordination for the high school sports program .
QUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or superintendent
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is recommended by the superintendent and is an 11 month contract.
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel .
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess personal and professional characteristics necessary for working effectively with athletes, coaches, school personnel and the community.
- Degree or certification relevant to the field.
- Experience coaching, secondary education is preferred. Strong knowledge of the sports offered at LCPS.
- Willingness to obtain a CDL license.
- The division will give consideration to alternatives to the above qualification as the division deems appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or superintendent
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of an athletic program, including hiring coaches, scheduling, budget preparation, promotion, compliance and facility management.
- Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the high school to which he/she is assigned in cooperation with the Principal and Supervisor of Athletics; assumes responsibility for preparing the school's interscholastic athletic schedule in consultation with the Principal and coaching staff.
- Administers the athletic program with regards to proper eligibility of athletes ,
insurance coverage , maintenance of equipment and compliance with VHSL and school board policies and regulations. - Coordinates the operation of athletic contests to ensure that transportation, officials, facilities , and security are properly provided .
- Supervises the performance of the school's ticket sales ensuring the contests are properly serviced and that receipts are properly counted and banked .
- Represents the school in District, Regional , and State VHSL meetings .
- Supervises the coaching staff to ensure that proper practice schedules are maintained and follows VHSL and school board policies and regulations.
- Assists the administration in the evaluation of coaching staff .
- Abides by the Lancaster County School Board Policies and Regulations .
- Exerts leadership and encourages leadership among coaching staff in
emphasizing , promoting , and honoring academic accomplishment by students participating in athletic programs and that the school board policies and regulations for eligibility policies are met. - Maintains positive relationships with coaches, school personnel, and the community.
- Works collaboratively with others to develop a strategic plan for athletes and extra curriculum activities.
- Develops and implements innovative opportunities to get the community involved in athletics.
- Support for and ability to further the Lancaster mission and philosophy.
- Due to the nature of the job, the director has variable hours based on team schedules, with approval of the superintendent.
- Support the school and its leadership by giving them the information they need to make decisions in a timely manner.
- Organize regular professional development and mentoring of upper School coaches that is aligned with the mission of the school.
- Prepare,submit, and administer a budget each year to fund the athletic programs of the school.
- Oversee the college recruitment process for interested students-athletes.
- Planning and oversight of recognitions and celebratory signings.
- Is responsible for all communication regarding the athletic program so that students, families and the community are awareness of what's happening with school athletics.
- Collaborates with Middle School athletic coordinator and all coaches to ensure communication.
- Responsible for keeping LCPS Athletic Handbook current.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and/or superintendent .
