Reports to: Director of Analytics

Boston Public Schools is seeking to fill the position of Analyst in the Office of Data and Accountability. The Analyst will focus specifically on performing analyses related to student achievement and performance data, including standardized assessments, course work, attendance, and discipline, in order to help monitor district and school performance related to goals. Additionally, the Analyst will work with the State Assessment Manager to improve operations and real-time monitoring of state assessment operations. As a member of a highly collaborative group, and given the time-sensitive nature of many of these analyses, the Analyst can expect to rely on the experience of other analysts within the Office of Data and Accountability, and will be expected in turn to support the work of colleagues on related projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Executive Director and Director of Analytics within the Office of Data and Accountability to identify areas within the district agenda for analysis.
  • In coordination and collaboration with the State Assessment Manager, implement innovations and efficiencies to our assessment operations practices, leveraging technology to do so.
  • Fulfill data requests from internal and external members from the BPS community by extracting data from internal databases.
  • Collaborate with analysts in ODA to develop common queries and code to increase efficiencies when filling data requests.
  • Perform various analyses on student-level, school-level, and district-level data and provide relevant policy recommendations based on analyses.
  • Generate reports for both technical and non-technical audiences based on results of analyses.
  • Provide technical assistance to school and central staff regarding data needs, assessments, and analyses.
  • Represent ODA at the school, network, and district team levels by providing direct services and support.
  • Perform other duties in the Office of Data and Accountability as needed.

Qualifications - Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of data analysis experience, preferably in K - 12 education.
  • Strong analytic and data systems management skills, as well as extremely strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency and/or expertise with statistical analysis software and programming languages such as STATA, R, SPSS, SQL, etc.
  • Enthusiasm for working on technical projects with diverse team to completion.
  • Excellent time management skills, experience balancing competing priorities, and prioritizing resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • The ability to explain complex analytical concepts to lay persons in clear and concise easy to understand terms.
  • The ability to react to requests with both flexibility and firmness (and the ability to distinguish when to use which skill).
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences and experience with Boston, its neighborhoods and schools
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience collaborating across departmental lines
