WLT started with the education of teachers who were working with individuals with dyslexia. Now, in addition to our school- and district-level in-service work, the Wilson certification models are embedded into several universities� reading or special education graduate degree programs so that teachers are better prepared to teach the most challenged readers.

Whether educators work with us in their schools/districts or at a university, our goal is the same: to give them a high-level of knowledge and skill with teaching reading and writing to all of their students.

This position is responsible for providing professional learning in accordance with Wilson Language Training�s Continuum of Support with a focus on the Wilson Reading System�. This position will be responsible for presenting WRS workshops, supervising WRS Level I and Level II (if eligible) Certification participants with fidelity. Additionally, the Wilson Dyslexia Training Specialist will provide expert advice, guidance and ongoing support to Wilson Reading System teachers and others seeking information about intensive reading instruction for learners with dyslexia, including internal Wilson staff.

The Wilson Dyslexia Specialist position is a remote, part or full-time academic position, which involves the delivery of primarily virtual professional learning from a home office but may occasionally include in-person assignments.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Presents WRS workshops, COMPASS Plan-related and for public offerings
  • Conducts COMPASS Plan-related WRS Level I Certification Trainings including approving practicum students, reviewing practicum paperwork, conducting technology walk-through�s, WRS Level I Practicum Start-Up Sessions and live practicum observations; providing formal written feedback, debrief discussions, conducting implementation meetings, and tracking participant�s progress through the WRS Level I practicum
  • If eligible, Conducts COMPASS-related WRS Level II Certification Trainings, including approving practicum students, reviewing practicum paperwork, conducting WRS Level II video-based observations, providing formal written feedback and debrief discussions, scheduling and conducting one-on-one Practicum Support Meetings with participants, and tracking participant�s progress through the WRS Level II practicums
  • Works in conjunction with district administration to schedule and conduct WRS-related professional learning in accordance with COMPASS Plans
  • Utilizes/manages Wilson practicum dashboards to comprehensively support practicum participants
  • Maintains a professional and consistent line of communication with assigned practicum participants, responding to questions, concerns, and providing expert guidance in a timely fashion
  • Maintains open lines of communication with Dyslexia Training Team Leader, Program Development, Outreach, and Education Department staff as appropriate
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to set and/or maintain eligibility to conduct all levels of WRS Certification, including maintaining Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P) or Wilson Dyslexia Therapist (W.D.T.) Credential
  • Responds to inquiries about WRS, dyslexia, and MSL instruction from internal staff, teachers, administrators, parents, etc., as assigned
  • Keeps abreast of educational research and trends in literacy education, particularly as it relates to learners with dyslexia, dyslexia resources, and dyslexia legislation
  • Develops and conducts dyslexia-related presentations to a variety of audiences, including teachers, parents, and students with dyslexia
  • Completes WRS-related program development tasks and projects, as assigned
  • Understand and display WLT�s values
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Skills:
  • Ability to participate in training for the position, including participation at WLT Summer Training Meeting, with extended onboarding time before/after Trainer Meeting dates
  • Thorough knowledge of multisensory structured language pedagogy and a �natural� with multisensory language teaching
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to instruct, guide and mentor educational professionals including the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong scheduling and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of a broad scope of literacy issues.
  • Ability to work well and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, seek input and communicate progress, as appropriate.
  • Attends to details and pursues high quality professional learning outcomes.
  • Proven ability to host effective online meetings:
  • Intuitive knowledge of technology tools for video presentation
  • Ability to make participants feel comfortable with technology in a virtual environment including ability to problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Ability to establish credibility with program knowledge and technical skills
  • Ability to demonstrate genuine energy while building a rapport/establishing a community and engage with remote participants
  • Flexibility and the ability to remain calm under pressure/technical malfunctions
  • Ability to maintain remote participant�s attention through effective use of voice, tone, volume, and pitch
  • Ability to participate in regularly scheduled Wilson Dyslexia Training Team Meetings
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications.

Education or Certification:
  • Master�s Degree in Education or related field; concentration in reading a plus
  • Wilson Reading System Level II Certification with current W.D.T. credential
  • Current Wilson Credentialed Trainer (W.C.T.) Credential

Experience
  • Extensive experience teaching/coaching the Wilson Reading System in a variety of educational settings
  • Substantial background and experience in structured literacy
  • Experience presenting WRS workshops
  • Experience supervising WRS Level I Practicum participants
  • Experience supervising WRS Level II Practicum participants, a plus
