PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for supervising various aspects of Oatland Island Educational Center's Day to day operations including animal care, maintenance, custodial and major improvements. This position will directly supervise the custodial and maintenance staff.

REPORTS TO: Director, Oatland Island Wildlife Center
SALARY SCHEDULE: G-12
WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education Level: High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Preferred : Technical certificate, Associates degree, or Bachelor's degree in construction management, carpentry, or similar related field

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: (Required)
  • At least 10 years of experience in carpentry, construction and welding.
  • Inspect sites regularly to identify problems and necessary
  • Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and allocate work as per forecasted workloads.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance work.
Experience, Skill and Certification (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of building trades and maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Effective budgeting and performance management.
  • Fantastic organizational and leadership skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Directly supervise all maintenance, contractors, and custodial.
  2. Monitor the condition of existing structures at the Oatland Island facility and recommends actions for the maintenance of the structures, including wildlife habitat and housing, walkways, fences, plumbing, landscape grading and other aspects of the site.
  3. Develop designs, construction specifications and materials cost estimates, and perform other technical work as required for construction or maintenance of wildlife habitat and housing, and other features such as walkways and observation platforms.
  4. Prepare material and labor estimates for maintenance and operations work assignments.
  5. Coordinate work with outside contractors and supervises personnel working on construction projects
  6. Perform carpentry, routine plumbing, and other regular maintenance and construction activities.
  7. Inspect completed construction and maintenance projects to confirm that the project has been completed according to plan.
  8. Operate heavy machinery (backhoe and skidster) as necessary.
  9. Participate in the Oatland Island executive management team.
  10. Attends workshops and conferences to increase knowledge and skills for the varied tasks related to the job.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." This is an "essential personnel, critical staff" position. When there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations, this position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R. Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade 12 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. The regular work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday. This is a 250-day position contributing to TRS.
