2023 SUMMER Nutrition Services Applicant

Selection of candidates by the District shall be on the basis of seniority within the position's division, qualifications, and experience required by the position.

Selected candidates MUST be available to work the month of June and/or July.

**Human Resources will inform all candidates via email of their summer school assignments when staffing is complete. It's the candidate's responsibility to monitor the email account provided during the application process.

2023 Summer School Dates & Hours

Elementary Schools: June 6 to July 14; no school June 19 & July 3-5 / work schedules between 7:45am to 12:30pm

Middle & High Schools: June 6 to July 14; no school June 19 & July 3-5 / work schedules between 6:00am to 1:00pm

Buena Vista HS Only: June 6 to July 21;no school June 19 & July 3-5 / work schedules between 6:00am to 1:00pm

Central Kitchen locations - Gateway, Hale and Lewis & Clark Only:

June 6 to July 14; no school June 19 & July 3-5 / work schedules between 6:00am to 2:30pm

Qualifications for Summer Nutrition Staff:
  • Available to work during scheduled days of the program
  • Mandatory attendance at summer program training - APRIL 17th
  • Demonstrated above average work record and attendance record
  • Current OPS Nutrition Services employee
  • Maintain current Douglas County Food Handler's Certification
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff
  • Ability to work as part of a team to provide excellent service to school community
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Positions Available: (Candidate will make a selection on the application form)
  • Kitchen Assistant $15.54 per hour
  • Lead Kitchen Assistant $16.02 per hour
  • Manager Central Kitchen $19.55 per hour
  • Substitute $13.62 per hour

Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and serving of quality meals to students and staff
  • Cleaning and sanitation of equipment
  • Rotating food stock and supplies
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Attendance at Summer Food Program training
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Lead Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating and assisting with all facets of food production
  • Providing leadership in maintaining an efficient & clean environment
  • Communicate effectively with the Central Kitchen Manager
  • Daily accounting and deposits, if required
  • Food orders and completion of required reports
  • Attend weekly meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Central Kitchen Manager Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrated current Cafeteria Management experience, Central Kitchen experience preferred
  • Management of all facets of food production, daily accounting and payroll practices
  • Providing leadership in maintaining an efficient & clean environment
  • Models high personal and professional standards
  • Food orders and completion of required reports
  • Communicate effectively with the Lead Kitchen Assistants daily
  • Attend weekly meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel
