HCS' summer school programming, Summer REACH, will be held from June 5 - June 30 for a total of 20 days. Elementary summer sites will operate from 8 AM to 2 PM. Middle and High Schools operate from 9 AM to 1 PM, Monday through Fridays. The REACH program will give HCS students the opportunity to build on past learning, strengthen essential skills, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

This posting is for external college students to work this summer. No certification is necessary. Additional REACH postings will be forthcoming.

Responsibilities

  1. Teaching & Learning :
    • Throughout the REACH program, teachers will:
      1. Ensure Equity in Actions
      2. Set High Expectations
      3. Build a Productive Classroom Culture
      4. Demonstrate Responsive Teaching and Learning
    • Use instructional best practices to implement lessons written specifically for the REACH program. The lessons will follow Hamilton County Schools' instructional framework.
    • To meet TDOE guidelines, teachers must use pre and post assessments on digital platforms provided by TDOE and Hamilton County Schools.
    • Assess student mastery regularly to determine the most appropriate just-in-time scaffolds needed for their students.
  2. Classroom Culture:
    • Builds a safe and productive classroom culture.
    • Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning to unfold.
    • Demonstrates a growth mindset and promotes a growth mindset with students
    • Handles disciplinary issues and parent contacts
  3. Family & Community:
    • Consistently develop strong relationships with students' families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.
    • Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children's learning.
  4. Professional Responsibilities:
    • Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
    • Collaborates with other REACH staff in order to ensure effectiveness of the program
    • Work daily hours of 8:00-3:00 Monday - Friday Elem. Middle and high schools operate 9 AM to 1 PM, Monday through Friday each week.
    • Take attendance daily for students
    • Effective delivery of lessons
    • Effectively implement daily schedule
    • Anticipates, identifies, and resolves obstacles to ensure success of overall program

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience:
  • Education Majors enrolled in accredited Tennessee Colleges and or Universities.


Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Committed to high academic achievement and high expectations for all students
  • Professionals with high personal standards and integrity
  • Able to be a positive team-player and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families

Pay:

Teachers will be paid a $20/hour

We are seeking teaching candidates who are:
