The Board of Education of Jefferson County Schools in Jefferson County, West Virginia is seeking a highly qualified visionary Superintendent to lead the District.  The Superintendent will serve as a student oriented and a transformational leader who will successfully address the concerns and issues communicated by the entire school community and residents throughout the County.  Jefferson County is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, 52 miles west of Washington, D.C. and 67 miles west of Baltimore, Maryland.  The Jefferson County School District is ranked in the top twenty percent of school districts in West Virginia. 

 

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development is engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the School Board in identifying and screening the candidates.

Salary:  Regionally competitive salary based upon experience and qualifications

 

The Qualifications

 

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership to include high expectations, being data driven and maintaining a culture of accountability throughout the District. Experience as a Superintendent or in a central office leadership position in county-wide, similarly sized diverse school District is preferred.  Teaching experience in a public school for 5 years is required.  Knowledge of West Virginia code, Jefferson County and the surrounding area desired.  Doctorate preferred and West Virginia Superintendent certification – or eligibility for it – are required as is a requirement for living in Jefferson or the adjacent West Virginia County. The Board is seeking a candidate with the following required characteristics:

 

               

  1. Strong leadership with the ability to organize efficiently and effectively to streamline district operations and manage a modern work force A focus on academic achievement, student performance, and diversity and inclusion with the goal of moving the district to the top of the State and surrounding areas Demonstrates professionalism while fostering a positive community school culture Ability to interpret, analyze and explain data to drive decisions and has experience in budget management, school finance, and the oversight of building, bond and levy projects Clearly communicates expectations effectively with Board, staff, students and community and values athletics and the arts
