Job Title: Principal

Summary:

The School Principal is responsible for the effective management of programs, personnel, materials, and facilities in order to develop an optimum learning climate for the unique needs of a particular school site. He or she shall direct the operation of the school in accordance with policies established by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Louisiana Department of Education, and the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board. He or she has the primary responsibility to provide an educational program which is responsive to student needs; while at the same time, addresses the goals and objectives of the EBRPSS and the school. The School Principal shall plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate functions of the overall management and leadership of the school. He or she shall be responsible for the school's operation within the financial limitations of the EBRPSS and site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.

  • Ensure implementation of state and district curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness stan

  • Monitor multiple forms of student data to develop instructional and intervention decisions to maximize student achievement.

  • Ensure that effective instruction maximizes growth of individual students and student groups, supports equity, and eliminates the achievement gap.

  • Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education programs. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.

  • Regularly conduct classroom walk-throughs to monitor progress of district-level initiatives and use findings to take appropriate actions.

  • Recruit, select, place, mentor, and retain diverse and highly effective teachers and staff.

  • Provide clear expectations of staff performance and conduct rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources.

  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.

  • Coach and develop teachers and staff by giving individual feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.

  • Implement collaborative structures and provide leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff.

  • Make recommendations to the superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.

  • Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of the school's mission.

  • Focus on solutions-oriented environments where challenges become opportunities; promote support of school and community through continuous improvement.

  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote school improvement.

  • Develop and set annual campus performance objectives using the campus planning process and site- based decision making committee.

  • Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each performance indicator.

  • Proactively seek and act on feedback, reflect on personal growth areas, seek development opportunities, and change practice in ways that improve student outcomes.

  • Communicate with all audiences and develop productive relationships.

  • Participate on district level committees as assigned.

  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Louisiana Educators in such a way that it demonstrates a moral imperative to educate all children and follow practices and procedures of the District.

  • Develop, implement, and sustain a shared vision of high expectations for all students and staff. Recognize excellence and achievement.

  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.

  • Establish, reinforce, and monitor clear expectations for adult, staff, and student conduct, including social and emotional support.

  • Create a safe school environment that ensures the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students. Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.

  • Apply a variety of RtI techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students. (Examples: PBIS and Restorative Discipline principles)

  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.

  • Provide for two-way communication with the superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.

  • Purposefully engage families and community members in meaningful student learning experiences.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:

Principal must demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in: developing a climate of high expectations for students and staff; using assessment practices to measure student growth and achievement; implementing positive school-community relations; providing leadership for curriculum development, staff development, personnel evaluation and integrating technology into the teaching/learning process.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in Educational Leadership /Administration or another area of Educational studies. Hold a Valid Teaching Certification in the area of Educational Leadership.
