The Teen Parent Advocate works directly under the ELECT (Education Leading to Employment and Career Training) Program Coordinator to provide case management services to all pregnant/parenting teens enrolled in the program.

Salary

Paraprofessional Salary Schedule, Level C (starting at $4,191 per month)

This is a 10 month position.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or equivalent and at least sixty(60) college credits in a related area are required.

- A Valid PA Driver's License and access to an automobile for mandatory home visits.

- Experience with community and social service agency providers.

PREFERRED:
- A college degree in a field related to Teen Parenting.

- Two years implementing teen parent programming.

- Knowledge and empathy for the unique needs of pregnant and parenting teens.

- Understanding of the challenges and needs of pregnant/parenting at risk teens.

- Experience working with children and an understanding of the developmental milestones .

- Committed towards the success of pregnant/parenting teens.

- Ability to multitask, problem solve, be creative and think strategically for program development and implementation.

- Experience with recruiting pregnant/parents teens for programming.

- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

- Ability to communicate with diverse populations; students, parents, community partners.

- Ability to follow program guidelines while being culturally sensitive and equitable to all students according to the PPS mission to address racial disparities in education.

Essential Job Functions

The Teen Parent Advocate provides case management services to all pregnant/parenting teens enrolled in the ELECT Teen Parenting Programs.
- Provides support and referral services for teen parents.
- Networks with school nurse, school social worker, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Serves as the liaison with school Student Assistance Program (SAP) Core Team for education/prevention services for teen parents.
- Provides information on home study/homebound for eligible pregnant/parenting teens.
- Conducts home visits to students enrolled in the program.
- Mandatory travel for meetings, conferences, home visits, events, and student drop offs, and other travel as needed
- Able to proficiently operate equipment (computer, phone, fax, and software packages)
- Delivers mandated services according to the ELECT Grant Guidelines which includes vocational/career planning, student assessment and individualized plans; instruction/information on health care; nutrition; budgeting; family planning; domestic violence and other issues that may affect pregnant and parenting teens.
- Develops and maintains individual files on all students enrolled in the program. Files include service plans, ongoing case management documentation, academic/attendance records, and information as mandated by the Department of Human Services and the Department of Education.
- Submits monthly attendance records (MARS), and other data tracking forms: Student Demographics Forms, Education Forms, Pregnancy Outcome Forms, Child Forms, and Participant Follow-up Forms in accordance with due dates.
- Has on-going contact with Program Coordinator; attends monthly training meetings at the ELECT Program's main office; attends school-based Core Team meetings, and professional development opportunities as scheduled.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise documentation
