Position Summary:

The Director of Facilities for Catholic Schools is responsible to support the Chancellor, Superintendent, Associate Superintendents Principals, Pastors, Facilities Managers and maintenance workers in all aspects of school facilities management on 44 campuses by working to ensure all schools are clean, safe, well maintained and operating efficiently. Visit each school location at a minimum of two times annually, and work with the school leadership to ensure that all building systems are properly maintained, through a system of scheduled preventive maintenance and capital planning.

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure that capital planning requirements and priorities are driven by the school leadership and school board for each campus and that a funding plan is established to provide for operations and capital maintenance expenses.
  • Ensure that each school has a preventive maintenance and inspection plan to provide a safe, clean and well-maintained facility.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with those responsible for facilities management at each campus and understand the capabilities and needs for each location. Coordinate regional training sessions in person or virtually to teach facilities management skills and raise the skill level of the Catholic Schools facilities team. Work collaboratively and positively with all departments in the Catholic Center
  • Ensure that facilities compliance programs are followed at all locations including Asbestos hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), lead testing of drinking water, testing of fire systems, elevator inspections, boiler inspections and other governmental reporting/inspection requirements.
  • Assist schools when facility emergencies arise.
  • Assist schools with developing, planning and implementing strategic facilities plans and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Lead, coordinate and implement regional, consolidated purchasing of services such as housekeeping, landscaping, snow removal, HVAC preventive maintenance, waste and recycling services.
  • Works with contractors and vendors to procure facilities management services. Ability to prepare Request for Proposal Documents (RFP's), technical reports of observation and facility management plans. Must possess knowledge of purchasing procedures and strategies; proven ability to negotiate effective cost-saving strategies without sacrificing quality of materials or work.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical drawings, technical publications and other documents.
  • Bachelor's degree in business management, facilities management or a technical area such as architecture, engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of all building systems - technical in all areas of building operations: Minimum of 10 years in facilities management across multiple locations.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Enthusiastic, personable, and motivated leader with excellent communications skills, comfortable with public speaking and making presentations.
  • Ability to utilize Google and Microsoft Office Suite of applications, including, Outlook, WORD and EXCEL,
  • Experience implementing preventive maintenance systems across a large portfolio of building assets.
  • Access to reliable transportation, be available by cell phone and is responsive for after-hours emergencies.
  • Hands-on familiarity with building automation and fire monitoring systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required to relate effectively with contractors and staff at all levels within the Catholic Center staff, and to keep the Chancellor, Superintendent and Director of Facilities and Real Estate informed of unexpected challenges as they arise. Proven ability to coordinate and support complex projects for remodeling and improving the physical plant and grounds.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and manage work assignments that may be extremely broad in scope and incumbent will need to determine and complete specific duties.
