Job Description
Primary Hall Preparatory Charter School ("Primary Hall") was designed to ensure that all students gain mastery of foundational skills in literacy and mathematics through the use of individualized supports. We understand that the elementary years are essential in providing students with the tools that they need for personal and academic success in middle school, high school and college so we commit to ensuring every student receives a rigorous education. In addition to core subjects, Primary Hall students will participate in daily mindfulness exercises, character education, and enrichment instruction in American Sign Language, Physical Education, Fine Arts, and African Drumming and Dance. All of our decisions are student focused, driven by our college preparatory mission and supported by our IMPACT core values.

The Role
The Principal of Lower Academy (K-3) will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Curriculum and Instruction to serve as an instructional and cultural leader that drives our ambitious goals for students. This is a founding role, and Primary Hall will be in its third year of operation. Our Principal of Lower Academy (PLA) must be a professional that thrives in a start-up environment, is open to feedback, and is committed to continual growth.

The Principal of Lower Academy will manage and support a growing team with ambitious goals and actively engage in our close-knit school community. The ideal candidate is a strategic planner and manager, who invests in developing talent, while possessing a strong understanding of academic rigor, positive school culture, and impactful instruction.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the PLA's Key Responsibilities will Include the Following:
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, identify academic priorities, set measurable goals related to attendance and school culture
  • Drive partnership with the Student Supports Coordinator and the Exceptional Education team to ensure that all students have the access and support needed to
  • Partner with the Dean of Culture to create and ensure enforcement of the school-wide discipline policy and devise structures and incentives for students to internalize and celebrate achievement of academic goals
  • Provide timely feedback, effective coaching, and quality professional development to administrators, teachers, and staff in order to improve the quality of instruction and student experience and achievement levels throughout the school
  • Implements the shared school vision and exhibits a deep belief in the potential of all students and leads to improvement for all learners
  • Assist with schoolwide transitions and routines
  • Support with Special Events (field trips, report card nights, fundraising events, performances, staff events, graduations)
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Key Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Leadership and management experience, school leadership
  • Extensive data management and reporting skills
  • Proven ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicates well with others and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members
  • Strong growth mindset, with a willingness to take personal responsibility, able to internalize and apply feedback with immediacy, dedication to effectiveness and excellence
  • Remains calm under pressure
  • Must be willing to work outside of traditional office hours if necessary or required
  • The role requires some attendance at school events outside of business hours
  • Three to five years of experience in effective teaching and other school-based roles; experience in urban school settings and/or charter schools preferred
  • Unwavering high expectations for all students
  • MA/MS in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction or similar field highly preferred
  • SBL certification highly preferred, but not required

Salary & Benefits:
Primary Hall offers a competitive salary and health benefits and is committed to providing professional development opportunities and the equipment necessary to perform well in the role.
