TITLE: School Social Worker- LTS for remainder of 2022/2023 school year

REPORTS TO: Executive Director School and Family Support or designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as determined by NLEA contract.

SUPERVISES: N/A

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist in providing desirable mental health concepts within the school system so that each child can have the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and emotionally to their full potential.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This description of the position is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.
  • Enhances the district's ability to meet its academic mission by strengthening communication and collaboration between home, school and the community.
  • Provides teachers and administrators with information within areas of expertise, including: mental health, custody/guardianship and foster care, and child abuse and neglect.
  • Participates in special education, 504, and problem-solving team meetings. Assists in the design and implementation of evidence-based practice to address emotional and behavioral concerns.
  • Participates in the development, monitoring, and implementation of IEPs for children with social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs.
  • Provides counseling and other interventions, for individuals or groups of students, that build on existing student strengths, and with the goal of removing nonacademic barriers to learning.
  • Coordinates attendance meetings at the school level. Recommends and implements interventions for students with poor attendance/truancy.
  • Facilitates, in a culturally responsive framework, activities that support parental involvement in their child's school experiences.
  • Provides information to parents about their child's developmental levels and best practices in parenting.
  • Makes referrals and supports families to gain access to community-based services and agencies.
  • Recognizes and provides intervention for students who have experienced trauma.
  • Provides clinically appropriate crisis intervention.
  • Maintains records and documentation of services.
  • Performs other related tasks assigned by administration.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Connecticut certification as a School Social Worker
    • Such additional qualifications as the Board deems advisable
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bilingual, English and Spanish
    EVALUATION: Annually by the Executive Director School and Family Support or designee.

    SALARY: $44,323-$87,369 based on experience/education as indicated by NLEA Contract
