Every day as a Animal Care Technician you will...

  • Perform housekeeping/ cleaning duties of assigned area
  • Care for small animals, including feeding, watering, and cleaning cages & tanks.
  • Ensure the well being of all animals in the assigned area
  • Monitor supply inventory and communicate items needed for area.

You will be offered:

  • Flexible schedule- 10 hours per weekend (every other weekend), 5 hrs- Saturday and 5 hrs- Sunday, weekdays during school recess

The DPACS Zoo is a companionable zoo program where students care for animals and learn functional, employment and social skills while building self-esteem and compassion. Through this animal enrichment program, students gain an understanding of "Service Learning," which uses active participation in service experiences that meet community needs while developing empathy, leadership skills and social responsibility.

Devereux Pennsylvania Children's Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), residential treatment (RTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments. Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care, in the environment best suited to the unique challenges they face, all with the goal of providing each child with the academic, social, emotional and life skills needed to flourish in their home community.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma required

Experience: Previous experience working with and caring for animals, Capable of displaying good verbal and written communication skills.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) COVID-19 vaccine mandate requires staff without an approved medical or religious exemption to be fully vaccinated to be employed in this program. If you are fully vaccinated, you will need to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or have an approved medical or religious exemption prior to starting.

Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate's understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children
