The Regional Educational Assessment & Diagnostic Services (READS) Collaborative Board of Directors invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Executive Director.

 

Located in Middleborough, MA, READS improves the educational outcomes for children and families of its 18 member districts by providing services through a highly specialized, trained staff of educators, administrators, therapists and assistants. Students participate in educational experiences at READS Collaborative that promote their success in receiving a high school diploma and having options for higher education or employment.

 

READS Collaborative specializes in the development of regional programs for children from age 3 to 22 with low incidence disabilities. The primary programs and service currently offered through the Collaborative include:

  • READS Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program provides day programs for children who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing in integrated public school settings. READS Academy provides a therapeutic day program for children who have social, emotional or behavioral challenges. READS District Services provides therapeutic services to districts as needed in areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, counseling, Family Success Partnership wraparound services, professional development, Assistive Technology and AAC assessments and consultation, and placement of long-term support personnel. The READS Clinic provides a menu of comprehensive psycho-educational, neuropsychological, risk, personality, audiological, speech/language and other evaluations at the request of school districts. The administrators, educators and specialists of READS Collaborative work diligently to promote the success and well-being of children, adolescents and adults.

READS Collaborative’s mission is to provide creative, flexible solutions that promote the success and well-being of each child, adolescent and adult learner.

 

READS is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of the Superintendents from the 18 member districts. Programs and services are sustained by approximately 150 employees and supported by an annual budget of $14 million.

The READS Collaborative Board of Directors seeks a highly qualified educational leader for the position of Executive Director. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an individual with experience in diverse learning environments who understands special education regulations and the dynamics of Massachusetts Public School Collaboratives. In addition to managing the educational programs, the new Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all business aspects of the operation. The role of Executive Director for READS provides the opportunity to support highly skilled, kind and caring staff who establish strong connections with students and families. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, Special Education Administrators from Member Districts and READS Administration to build and sustain programs and services for students, families and districts in southeastern Massachusetts.

  • Strong leader possessing visionary skills and a passion for academic excellence in special education An understanding of the social/emotional needs of students, including students in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to utilize/develop team relationships throughout the region so that they operate in a complimentary and collaborative manner Conviction in his/her beliefs and possessing the qualities associated with innovation and ability to lead member districts as well as the READS administration, faculty, and staff to action Possesses skills and flexibility in effecting change to meet evolving needs and landscape in public education Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills Skills in leading strategic planning linked to student learning, fiscal management, personnel development and inter-organizational partnerships Skilled in maximizing the use of available resources

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated educational leadership, specifically in relation to special education, with three (3) years or more as a school, district, or central office leader Minimum K-12 Massachusetts Building Level Administrator’s Certificate or evidence of eligibility Minimum of a Master’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred, and ten years of successful work experience in education, including at least five years in administration Ability to promote trust and confidence through integrity-based leadership Ability to promote strong academic learning and social/emotional relationships within the school Well-informed instructional leader with demonstrated skills in improving student academic performance Excellent communication skills Demonstrated familiarity with diverse cultures Willingness to understand the needs for educational adaptation for all students and staff in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.

 

The READS Board of Directors is prepared to offer a multi-year contract with a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. Screening of applications will begin shortly after the application deadline of May 9, 2023. Ideally, the new Executive Director will be appointed and will begin work on July 1, 2023.
