Company Description

KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx.  Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond – and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students.  Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000, and continues to grow!

Job Description

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Commit to the school community and know the student dynamic, developing strong relationships with both student-athletes and families
  • Commit to values of education, family and maintaining integrity and diversity
  • Demonstrate plans for attendance tracking, student-athlete academics monitoring, practices, and game strategy
  • Providing consistent structure for student-athletes, including but not limited to: practice routines, weekly study halls, academic check-ins
  • Provide in-person indoor and outdoor activities, including conditioning, sport specific skill development, competitions and relationship building for students using acceptable on-site activities adhering to all KIPP NYC, State, City and PSAL health and safety guidance
  • Adhere to standards of coaching ethics established by KIPP NYC and the PSAL
  • Assist Head Coach in performing all administrative tasks assigned by the PSAL, school principal and school athletic director, specifically the submission of daily attendance records and all electronic documents to the PSAL in a timely fashion
  • All activities must adhere to all KIPP NYC, State, City, NYCDOE and PSAL policies and Health and Safety guidelines   
  • Coaches will adhere to all mandated protocols to ensure a safe environment to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission by:
    • Upholding all guidelines contained in this PSAL Health and Safety Guidance
    • Communicating guidance in a clear and concise manner to athletes and parents
    • Producing accurate records of attendance for submission to Athletic Directors
    • Gradually returning athletes to play and encouraging proper hydration
    • Monitoring and working with the Athletic Director to support the entry protocols, including having all participants submit the daily health screenings, and temperature checks and COVID-19 testing
    •  Communicate, educate and enforce all health and safety protocols related to PSAL activities, including the Core 4  
      • Facial Coverings 
      • Physical Distancing 
      • Staying Home when Sick 
      • Hand Hygiene 

Qualifications

All positions are fully in-person and require reporting to the physical location indicated above.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

CPR/AED, First Aid, and Heads Up! Concussion Training, Previous Coaching Experience (All Preferred)

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

Excellent record of attendance and punctuality, demonstrated knowledge and practice of coaching skills, ability to offer quality instruction in the interscholastic sport, demonstrated knowledge of and practice in the sport applied for, possession of required CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred, and ability to utilize the PSAL website, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three year.

IN-SEASON WORK SCHEDULE:       

Sunday through Saturday, including but not limited to working on/during scheduled holiday and working on non-school days.  All positions are contingent upon funding availability.
