SUPERVISOR:
Principal or designee.

SUMMARY:
Provides instructional support and assistance within the classroom setting. Provides physical and instructional support and assistance, as needed, outside the classroom for students who have moderate, severe, and multiple disabilities. Works under the direction of a licensed staff member. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. As directed by teacher, assist with students in tutoring and skill building, as well as role-modeling. Utilize teacher-produced lesson plans to assist in the teaching process towards each student's individual education plan. This may include: teaching academic and life skills; job training on site; developing social interactions between students; reinforcing and generating communication skills and utilizing augmentative communication devices for students with mild language disabilities to non-verbal language capabilities.
2. May include the provision of technical physical care for students (e.g., toileting, grooming, and cleaning ventilation devices, feeding, care of G-Tubes, positioning, improving range of motion and administering medication).
3. Implement therapeutic procedures and programs prescribed by licensed staff.
4. Maintain daily records of student progress in regard to goals and objectives selected for implementation during ESY. Chart individual educational progress records in conjunction with certified / licensed team. Provides observation, opinions and feedback to team. May prepare special reports as needed.
5. Uses instructional equipment including computers, audio visual adaptive equipment, tape recorders and other school equipment.
6. Attend staff meetings when appropriate.
7. Use appropriate behavior management techniques with all students as outlined by the district and school guidelines and as prescribed for individual student's needs. May include dealing with students with mild to moderate disruptive behavior.
8. Maintain clean and hygienic work environment.
9. Maintain confidentiality of students' information and records.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to work one-on one or in small groups with students.
3. Ability to adhere to case management and delivery of Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
4. CPR/First Aid Preferred.
5. CPI training, preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.

1. Less than 1 year.
2. Prefer experience in a special education environment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. Occasional bending, reaching, climbing.
2. Extremely heavy physical effort (lifting over 50 pounds).
3. Normal school district environment.
4. Working with others.
5. Frequent lifting, pulling and/or pushing.
6. May be required to perform physical restraint.
7. Assist students with custodial needs (feeding/toilet).
