ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO
Superintendent

SALARY $95,000 - $110,000 ANNUALLY

POSITION SUMMARY
Works collaboratively and in close partnership with all district leadership roles and all stakeholders, to effectively provide services for students with disabilities and programming for gifted and multilingual learners. Assesses programs and curriculum related to Special Services. Ensures processes and services are compliant with federal and state laws.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Interact and communicate with building and district administrators regarding issues which impact Special Education
  1. Ensure a consistent IEP process throughout the district
  1. Assist teachers with procedures for assessment, interpretation and prescription of diagnostic assessment instruments
  1. Complete state and federal reports in a timely manner
  1. Evaluate Special Service Providers (mental health, OT, PT, SLP, etc.) and support principals with evaluating special education teachers
  1. Work with district legal counsel to ensure compliance. Work with legal counsel through any mediations, due process, or state complaints
  1. Complete and monitor federal and state budget in a timely manner
  1. Attend state and regional level director meetings and ensure district compliance with Department of Education indicators and other expectations
  1. Provide and/or coordinate inservices and other meetings when appropriate. Facilitate monthly district Special Education staff meetings
  1. Facilitate annual Continuous Improvement meeting.
  1. Remain aware of current and pending legislative changes in special education as they impact the district
  1. Review overall special education programs and equipment needs quarterly. Complete requests for new equipment supplies, curriculum and training needs
  1. Assist special education teachers and providers in developing appropriate goals and objectives based on student needs and strengths
  1. Assist teachers (Special Education and General Education) with the implementation and use of curriculum, assessment and assignment accommodations and modifications
  1. Recruit and retain qualified staff
  1. Manage and collaborate with district Gifted and Talented personnel
  1. Ensure district is compliant with all Gifted and Talented legal requirements
  1. Develop and monitor Gifted and Talented budget in a timely manner
  1. Manage and collaborate with district ELL personnel
  1. Develop and monitor ELL budget in a timely manner
  1. Oversee district Nurse and 504 process
  1. Manage Child Welfare Education Liaison and McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison responsibilities
  1. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
Master's Degree in Special Education, Administration or related field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Three or more years in an educational setting and special education or in a related field
At least one year of supervisory experience preferred

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION
Must have or be able to obtain a Colorado Special Education Director License
